Update

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/29292/ReaNo...p.ReaperKeyMap

Pressing [b]space[b] for play also will move the screen to the edit cursor, so you'll see what you're playing.

x = move note to higher voice, make stem up
z = move note to lower voice, make stem down

Alt-Space - Play from start of file.

ctrl-shift M = minimize ties.

Made Tuplet input less buggy

Named it ReaNote (maybe Cockos will give me trouble about this, haha).

Thank you for making this map for us Sibelius people. You are kind.

Also just curious but your bandcamp album Op. V sounds nice, what sample libraries did you use for it? The winds strings celeste and accordian sound lovely

The Winds are Berlin Woods, and Embertone for the clarinet.

So are you using the map? How is it working for you?

Default A thought..

To insert a rest: create macro for

1 insert note of appropriate length (any note will do)
2 delete.

My knowledge of macros is that they're not the same as tacos but I haven't tried them yet .

Ok, I just tried that, it seems to be the same as moving the cursor right or left. (Right now done in my set with ctrl-alt-right)

My orginal problem with this was that if I wanted to 'create a rest' of a different value than the selected note. Pressing the numpad will also change the selected note's value (in my set). The solution is to first press alt-A to deselect the current note, then numpad [whichever notevalue you want], then ctrl-Alt right. It's very fluid for me (and again, I've spent my life on nothing but Sibelius), but if people don't like this method, I can try adding another.

Default If you mean

.......... does it affect other aspects of the midi editor eg piano roll, then yes it does; eg setting a note length on the number keypad will change a selected note or new note entry whichever editor mode you're in.

Ok, I just updated, and included your action for creating a rest. The command is Ctrl-Shift-R. Let me know how it is. To me it feels the same as ctrl-alt-Right.

Other changes

Ctrl-R = Rename current note (for keyswitches).

Ctrl-Double-Click = Rename current note (I like this better). **
Ctrl-Shift-Click = Select notes and timeloop.**

Edited Legato command so it doesn't make connections 'too deep'. Now you can freely re-legato sections and everything plays nicely.

Pro-tip = Float mixing windows, pin it to top (clicking on top right corner pin bottom) and toggle it visible with Ctrl-M. Then you can get the mixer without leaving your notation view.

** These need a mouse modifier import. Here's the link. https://stash.reaper.fm/v/29997/ReaNo...MIDI_PIANOROLL

Also, for myseelf personally, I've added a command
[color=blue]
Ctrl-Shift-F
Float FX list for currently selected track in midi view.

However it needs a LUA script, provided thanks to juliansader!!

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=188442

Would you like this (and possibly other future) LUA scripts integrated, to increase functionality, but I guess it would need more downloads?

Or do people prefer to just keep a simple action list?

This LUA is very nice, as it allows you to hit a key from notation and float your Kontakt VST.

Well now there's more. I didn't want to wait for this update.

Ctrl-T = Add Text

Alt-up/down = Select note (up/down) in a chord
Alt-Right/Left = Select next/previous note with same pitch

1-8 add that interval above selected note (major or perfect. You'll need to press the down arrow to make it minor).

I should do the same with intervals below, by holding shift# but those are already assigned to viewing channels. Does anyone besides me like that function?

I'm also thinking it makes more sense to use , and . to move the edit cursor to the start and end of the selected note (right now it's m and , )I'm just thinking because it correlates with the <> symbols on the keyboard.

Update, Version 11

When you create a dotten rhythm, it will automatically create the complementary next note (and unselect the dotted rhythm).

E.g. you create a dotted quarter, the next note will be ready to insert as an eighth.

Ctrl-Shift B = Add bar to end of file.

Ctrl-L = Loop-play selected notes.

Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Down = This will select the same notes in the next track, that you currently have selected.

There are not a ton of hotkeys in this set... are they easier to understand / intuitive? Would it be worth it for me to try and make a video of how these work? For me, it creates a super easy workflow, so I'm hoping others can likewise benefit.

Incredible, Albert. I'm just coming back to notating in REAPER after waaaay too long being distracted by rebuilding my studio. The progress you've made is phenomenal! Much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

One thing I'm noticing, if you create a syncopated rhythm (e.g. inserting a quarter not on an off-beat) and then insert another note, the 'snap' will actually snap it backwards... So it's best to turn snap off if you're writing something with syncopation.

This using to be a big problem when making a doted rhythm, but I did that fancy workaround. If it's still a problem when making syncopated rhythms, I can try to make another workaround.

And do you guys want to include Shift-# to create an interval below the selected note? Sibelius had that, but I'm ok just creating the interval above, and using ctrl-down to bring it down an octave.

I also want to figure out a way to make a track automatically be activated when you click a note in that track.

Since this thread is full of notation people, I wonder if this idea is appealing to you.

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...33#post1822633

So we would be able to select 2 staves (Violins 1 and 2 for example) and view them as separate voices on a single staff.

And since I'm bumbping this thread already, here's a couple updates

Ctrl-Alt-A = Select chord.

Page up/down for scrolling in 'non continuous view'

Ctrl-Shift-A = Select all notes in measure. Now the cursor will move to your selected note. So it will select based on what notes you have selected, rather than where the cursor is.

Oh, and my favorite thing. Now if you press the "flat" or "sharp" keys num-8 or num-9, it will make flats or sharps the default. So you're not constantly changing the accidentals.

I realize the scripts won't work for you unless you manually import them

For now, in order to float an instrument from score view, you'll have to import this,

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/30462/float%20instrument.lua

If anyone knows how I can make a Reaper File that can drag and drop to import all settings for the action list, that would be great!

Default Import not working for me...

I *really* want to try this, but the import isn't working for me.

Note that I am not a complete noob on REAPER, but my experience is fairly limited. So I could very well be doing something wrong.

I'm using v.5.4 (x64).

Here's what I did:
Opened the MIDI Editor
Pressed ? to bring up Action List.
Clicked on the Import/export button.
Selected Import from the context menu.
Browsed for and then opened this file:
ReaNote KeyMap.ReaperKeyMap
Time/Date stamp on file that I downloaded:
March 24, 2017 at 01:31 PM

After doing that I attempt to use some of the shortcuts you listed and none of them work. Note that I do have the NumLock key toggled on.

What am I doing wrong here?

(note, NumLock must be on for this to work)

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/29292/ReaNo...p.ReaperKeyMap

Here's what I have so far

A,B,C,D,E,F,G - input note.
-up/down raises or lowers the pitch 1 semitone.
-ctrl up/down raises or lowers the pitch 1 octave.
-1-8 add interval above the selected note.

num-pad - change note lengths whole, half, quarter etc. 456123.
__________Num4 = quarter
__________Num5 = half
__________Num6 = Whole
__________Num1 = 32nd
__________Num2 = 16th
__________Num3 = 8th

Holding ALT does the same thing, but with triplets!
Ctrl . will add a 'dot'.

navigate
-Arrow keys select previous / next note
-Alt-up/down = Select note (up/down) in a chord
-Alt-Right/Left = Select next/previous note with same pitch
-Shift left/right adds previous/next note to selection
-Shift up/down adds lower/higher note to selection
-ctrl left/right move cursor forward/backward 1 bar*
-Ctrl-Alt left/right move cursor forward/backward 1 grid.

-ctrl A select all
-ctrl alt A deselect all
-Num7 notate as natural
-Num8 = notate as sharp
-Num9 = notate as flat
-Z stem direction down
-X stem direction up
-ctrl-shift-up move note to upper staff
-ctrl-shift-down move note to lower staff

-ctrl num+/- zoom in/out vertically
-num+/- zoom in/out horizontally

Some non-sibelius hotkeys I've added
M Navigate edit cursor to start of selected events
, Navigate edit cursor to end of selected events
shift A selects all notes in measure
Ctrl A: Select all notes
Alt A: Deselect all notes
Ctrl Shift A Select all notes in measure
Ctrl-Shift-Click-drag Select notes and timeloop.**
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Down This will select the same notes in the next track, that you currently have selected.
Ctrl-Shift B Add bar to end of file.

Alt-Space - Play from start of file.
Ctrl-L Loop-play selected notes.

L: make selected notes legato
(adds slur and slight overlap)
Ctrl W "staccato" (adds staccato articulation and switches notes to channel 2).
Ctrl W "portato" (adds portato articulation and switches notes to channel 3).
Ctrl . = Make note dotted.
x = Selected notes to 'upper' voice, stems up.
z = Selected notes to 'lower' voice, stems down.
Ctrl-T = Add Text

alt T Minimize ties
S = toggle snap to grid (changed split to alt-S)
V = view tracks
Backspace Undo last note input.

Moving the cursor and notes
ctrl-alt left/right = move cursor by grid
ctrl left/right = move cursor by measure
ctrl-shift left/right = move cursor by pixel
Do the same with Num 4-6 = move notes the same way

Ctrl-R = Rename current note (useful for keyswitches).
Ctrl-Double-Click = Rename current note (I like this better). **

Ctrl-F = Float Instrument VSTi***

**Download Mouse Modifiers Here
https://stash.reaper.fm/v/29997/ReaNo...MIDI_PIANOROLL

*** Float Instrument from score view requires this LUA
https://stash.reaper.fm/v/30462/float%20instrument.lua

What I haven't been able to achieve
click a bar to select bar (there's 'edit: Select all notes in measure, I'm trying to put is as a 'mouse modifier' but there's no option to take something from the action menu in the 'piano roll' mouse modifier section. It would be brilliant if Reaper could make this graphically identical to Sibelius (click a bar, a nice blue highlight, do what you want to the bar).

ctrl left/right to select first note in previous/next bar (though I have something similar).
alt up/down select higher/lower note in a chord
I think devs need to create an action "Navigate: select higher note" "Navigate: select lower note"
Numbers 1-9 create an interval above the selected note,
I managed to do this kindof, if the note is selected and you press M to get the edit cursor in the right place, you can press a number and it will add the pitch that man semitones above. Holding shift will do the same for intervals below. Adding ctrl will allow for double digits, e.g. ctrl-shift-0 makes the interval that many semitones below. ctrl-2 adds 1 octave above.
click an empty space 'grab' to move the 'page' around.
(That nice little 'grabbing hand' should appear.

I'm glad to finally contribute something; hope this helps (and this is the right forum). Let me know if anything's missing (that Sibelius has). I'm constantly updating this in order to achieve the optimal workflow.
This is great! Good question on the import. Not working here atm. Need some spare time.

Hmmm... as far as I can tell, everything should work for you... I've imported it on different computers and it works for me. I'll see if I can make a video on how to do it.

Also, I just made an update. Now the download file is a .zip file (can everyone open this?) which includes the .lua that lets you open your VSTi by pressing ctrl-F.

ctrl-alt-shift + right/left = scrolling

ctrl-alt-backspace = cycle through reaper windows (like alt-tab in Windows).

ctrl-F = now works perfectly, but you must import the .lua script.

Ctrl-P = Play Solo (needs SWS extensions).

Ctrl-Alt-H = 'Humanize' selected CC

S = Snap
Alt-S = Split notes (I switched these, because toggling snap is so common.

Ctrl-Alt 1/2/3/4 = Change midi note channel for selected notes, as well as future inputed notes. If people want more than 4 channel, I can do that.

Non-Midi

Ctrl-Alt-0 = Set effects for selected tracks Offline
Ctrl-Atl-O = Set effects for selected tracks Online

Those last 2 should work whether or not you're in the midi editor. Very useful for disabling tracks in your template, in order to save resources.

Can you go into your action list (pressing ?) and look at the actions? All my custom actions should be at the top; they're all named starting with a !

I'm wondering if it's possible to make an .RPP file, so the whole thing can be dragged in as an extension.

Thanks for your response!

I went into the MIDI editor action list and again imported the ReaNote keymap file.

There aren't any action descriptions starting with a "!".

No, this is something I'm trying. Here,

https://stash.reaper.fm/manage_file/3...eaperConfigZip

try dragging this ^^ into Reaper.

If that doesn't work, try "preferences" "general" "import" and open that.

Ok, great!

I'm not sure if the scripts will work however. I think the main commands will work; try pressing A and see if you get an A note. but not the scripts. try pressing ctrl-F and your VSTi or Kontakt instance should float
So if that doesn't work; try downloading this version.

I don't have time to test this right now, but I will get to it. THANKS!

Re the KeyMap file that didn't work. I recommend you re-export it. When I looked inside the ReaNote keymap I had downloaded, I saw this (which is obviously not keymap stuff):

Quote:
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Down = This will select the same notes in the next track, that you currently have selected.

Ctrl-Alt-A = Select chord.

I'm not sure what you mean here. These actually are keymap functions (I made some pretty complex custom actions).

For example,

Ctrl-Alt-A = Select chord.

this is actually using multiple instances of "select next higher note" and "select next lower note". If you build a giant chord with like, 50 notes, it won't work.

By the way, if you want the absolute newest / best working version, this is it,

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/30768/ReaNo...eaperConfigZip

It's more than a simple action list now; it includes a couple scripts and some mouse modifiers.

Thanks for the updated .rpp. I really like what you've done here.

Quote:
I'm not sure what you mean here. These actually are keymap functions (I made some pretty complex custom actions).
I agree that those are keymap functions, but they aren't keymap file data.

After dragging the .rpp file you posted into REAPER, which successfully loaded your keymappings, I did an Action List Export All. When I pull up the resulting file in a text editor, here's what is at the top of the file:

etc...
This is what I'm referring to when I say "keymap file data."

When I open the keymap you have posted in the REAPER stash in the text editor, this is what I see:

Quote:
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Down = This will select the same notes in the next track, that you currently have selected.

Ctrl-Alt-A = Select chord.

Page up/down for scrolling in 'non continuous view'

Ctrl-Shift-A = Select all notes in measure. Now the cursor will move to your selected note. So it will select based on what notes you have selected, rather than where the cursor is.
These appear to be notes/comments, rather than the actual keymap data. And this is all that is in the file; I'm not just posting a partial list of what's there--this is the entirety of it.

Do you mean this file?

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/29292/ReaNo...p.ReaperKeyMap

I've actually replaced this file with an .rpp file, but it turns out ReaStash doesn't change file names when you replace a file, so even though it's named ass a .ReaperKeyMap it's a .ReaperConfigZip

So I'm thinking I'll just need to upload a new file each time I update, and maybe delete the old version.

I'm glad it's working for you. Have you tried selecting a phrase and pressing L to get legato? Do you use Kontakt multiple kontakt instances on a track? (for example, 3 flutes on the same track). If so, try using ctrl-alt 1,2,3,4 to switch to whichever voice you want to write in.

I'm really excited to hear about whether it's effective for other people. For me it's absolutely perfect.

Sorry for the constant updates, now the thing should just totally work. Someone please let me know it's working, including mouse modifiers (so ctrl-shift-drag for selection).

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/30821/ReaNote.ReaperConfigZip

Newest version in 15

Also added

T = Change Time Signature!
(I've been wanting this for a long time.)

This is a great addition to the notation workflow, but, unless I'm doing something wrong, I found it doesn't work with Midi keyboard input. After some messing around, I found this series of commands to work with both Midi and computer keys input. Not sure if it conflicts with the entire set of commands yet as I'm still working with it.

Quote:
Custom: !Quarter Note
Navigate: Move edit cursor to end of selected events
Edit: Unselect all
Grid: Set grid type to straight
Grid: Set to 1/4
Edit: Set note length to 1/4

I have not had the chance to work with it much yet. Too much other stuff going on IRL. But thanks for your efforts! I look forward to the point where I do get to work more with it.

The problem with this would be it wouldn't change the note value of the selected note.

I don't have a midi keyboard, but if you can change note value *before* deselecting, it would still be able to change values during step (I guess?)

Just a little update so pressing left-right will select the next/previous note in the *same channel*.

@Regisfofo, are you using a Mac or Windows? Do you have a num-pad?
