Default Multiple Play Cursors in Arrange view

here's an FR for the ability to have multiple, syncable play cursors in REAPER, ie playing multiple parts of the same project at the same time.

this would be great for live performances, fluidly adding additional elements by starting from different marker positions in a project. it would also be a great way to transition between 2 different songs on the fly.

it'd also be a novel UX for non-linear sequencing, maybe low hanging fruit compared to developing a dedicated "clip launcher" ala ableton.

NOTE: i realize that playstart is not something that can be triggered in realtime, due to fx anticipation and a number of other things. that's why triggering these playheads would be launched in a similar method to "smooth seek"

so far, i've envisioned "+Play Cursors" that would ideally have the following params:

Playhead Number
Playhead start point
Playhead end point
Playhead track group (all tracks, n track/s)
actions for start playhead at next X beat, bar, measure, etc
timeselections per playhead
toggle visibility of additional playheads/time selections/etc

i'll add to this as i think of more.

I can imagine, that this could be a quite confusing feature, if done wrong.
Especially for "regular",non-live users.
I also see the problem of "mixing" the different parts correctly. If you play a certain position and want to play it later again, but this time only tracks 3 and 5, not all of them, this could be quite difficult to achieve, if seen from the workflow-point of view.

Do you have anymore detailed ideas on how to make it practically?

I'd be very interested in the ability to loop and play a track independently of the main playback without dragging out, even if it were simply from the first bar; together with some additional 'regions playlist' features would be a useful combination.

let's say you have 3 regions.

you could start a play cursor at region 1's beginning and have it enter a time selection loop on region 1

you could then start a 2nd play cursor at region 3 and have it start as the 1st play cursor loops around, so that they're in sync with each other

but then again, one could consider this idea and flip it, instead, so that there could be multiple play cursors horizontally...ie having play cursors play certain tracks but not others. i prefer my earlier described idea but i haven't thought it through enough yet

users can be confused by any/everything that they don't use

Yeah it needs much more thinking, but I think, it's worth it. If properly thought through, it would create tons of cools things and use-cases, not just for live-music, but also for live-radio-plays and such...
