Default Reaper Media Explorer

Recently I needed to play music tracks to air for our Olympic Broadcast from a large, complex file directory.
Reaper Media Explorer was fantastic for the task and worked rock solid to air.
But I have 2 problems with it.

1.If I set just a start selection other than 0, when I hit 'stop preview', that start selection disappears. (not the waveform, just the start point) . Therefore, after the first preview is stopped, I have to re-find the desired start point again.
If both Start and End point are selected, then they remain after hitting stop preview (both start & end points remaining is good, and as I would expect for start point only selected).
('Play Previous' is not a workaround as it's a different key to remember and the visual of where the start point is lost). and setting start and end points are not quick when all I want is to click on a start point once.

2. I am demoing the latest Reaper 6 version and would dearly love to upgrade except that:
When I am previewing media and select another new media file, preview stops. This behaviour is unlike the preferable behaviour in version 5 where I could continue playing media until I was happy with a new media selected, and then hit preview for continuous sound into the new media with no pause in between.

Further, If a crossfade ability were added between media items previewed, and playback logging, then I would emphatically recommend Reaper 6 as an on-air music playback system to many other broadcasters.

I have tried adding selections to the sampler as a possible work around, but it is too slow as the beauty of 'Reaper Media Explorer' is the efficiency to quickly locate and play media with a waveform display that shows play position in real time.

Thanks very much in anticipation of a solution.

Interesting situation Lozz and that’s great you are using this program for applications such as the Olympics. Well done to you and it’s great to see the confidence in the software.
Can someone help Lozz with his queries?.

Default Media Explorer

Thanks for addressing these suggestions for Media Explorer!

v6.37 has mostly implemented this.
I am very encouraged and have bought the version 6 licence, Thank You!

Further to this can I implore you to consider some extra fine tuning.

This seems a bug in that if you click on a database or shortcut in the left navigation window, you need to hit enter button ( mapped to preview ) twice for a selected file to play. By contrast when I use the GUI's play button or a midi command mapped to preview, it plays immediately as expected.
Another bug is, with tempo map on, after playback is stopped the start point moves, if an alternate start point has been set.
When navigating between different databases, the settings for start point/ loop points, volume pitch, rate , ( and maybe start on bar ), should have an option to remember these settings next time that file is previewed within that particular database.
Preview crossfade option with global fade in fade out times.
Can I request an extra option to display waveform peaks of selected media without stopping preview, so you could select a new file displaying its peaks, but then still reselect the currently playing file and resume its waveform display including moving play position.
Can I request; the ability to zoom display peaks just for media explorer, (or at least follow zoom display peaks for project setting)
Can I request; database specific output mapping option that if set would override the main media explorer routing setting.
Can I request the option to apply a colour like a faint background highlight on file and waveform? this could help different groups of files be more visually identifiable?
Thanks, in anticipation of some great new features.

Could you explain this issue more specifically please?

Thanks so much for your interest in this!
When I choose a start point other than 0, after hitting stop, the start point remains correctly where I previously set it, if I have tempo match off.

However, if I have tempo match on, when I choose a start point other than 0, after hitting stop, the start point changes . This is wrong and unhelpful behaviour in my opinion.

See attached silent video to illustrate.

Default great progress but still suggest more tweaks please, please?

1. When navigating between different databases, the settings for start point/ loop points, volume pitch, rate , ( and maybe start on bar ), should have an option to remember all of these settings individually so next time that file is previewed within that particular database it exibits the same parameters. (and also the metadata field "offset" when written to metadata should affect initial start point, but çurrently doesn't)
2. Preview crossfade option with separate fade in AND fade out times. ( rather than currently fade in and out time are the same)
3. Option to display waveform peaks of selected media without stopping preview, so you could select a new file displaying its peaks, but then still reselect the currently playing file and resume its waveform display including moving play position.

4.Database specific output mapping option, that if set would override the main media explorer routing setting so all files within a sound fx database could go to a sound fx output for example.

5.(low priority) Can I request the option to apply a colour like a faint background highlight on file and waveform? This could help different genres/types of files be more visually identifiable?

6.please add Column for file date created ( date modified gets irrelevant when I write metadata to files)

7.Select Multiple files should enable batch editing of metadata.

Thanks, in anticipation of some great new features.
