Hi Schwa
New version is "reaper 6.9999"? but release notes only show v6.66 - August 17 2022!

Bug: Faint peaks in folder tracks don't scale with the smaller item size.

Unsolicited opinion: I'm not a fan of how items are floating above the track lines when they aren't selected. I also feel like I'm losing a bit of vertical real estate when displaying items at smaller vertical zoom sizes.

I amn't either, but Schwa was kind enough to tell me how to remove it. Look for the slider in prefs>appearance>media item positioning and set to 0.

This is still an issue: The [-] icon in the folder expand/collapse column isn't centered:

Thanks! That's definitely better, but it does still appear to be a few pixels higher than normal.

I don't believe so. I think there was always a little gap at the bottom.

Regarding CLAP, it would be nice if Reaper produced nice looking category strings, so that they look in line with other categories from VST2/3 plugins...

Capitalize words and replace underlines with whitespaces. Also, if a plugin exposes subcategory, this is usually way more important than the main category (https://github.com/free-audio/clap/b...features.h#L33), and it would be much better if Reaper showed this instead.

The plugin itself exports those strings, as strings.

CLAP plugins can have any number of category strings. At present we are only mapping to the first one, because REAPER only supports one per plugin at present. We'll probably extend that in the future.

Right, I am aware - Robbert mentioned on CLAP Discord that nice formatting of these strings is host's responsibility (Bitwig does that - so MFM2 shows up as Delay over there, not as audio_effect).

Good to hear this will be extended eventually

I don't think the host should be changing the display of those strings, since they are exported literally from the plugin. Anyway, MFM2 exports three category strings: "audio_effect", "delay", and "filter". At present REAPER only shows the first one.

FWIW, I don't think those are actually strings, but rather IDs, as CLAP uses strings as IDs everywhere. In the same CLAP header file there are also IDs like "instrument" and "mono", and to me these are also clearly not meant as literal strings.

Yes, just in previous versions 0 meant 0.

I have it set to 1 not to waste space

Now there is no option but to waste space

There is a setting for space between items on adjacent tracks. Maybe you need to make it 0,too.

Yeah but I thought they were talking about this until You pointed out its different, didn't see second option.

Maybe combine track spacing and this slider thing into one thing ?

Which one? That slider is for setting selected item indicator size and this setting is for whole item size. They're not the same and can't be combined.

Yeah, completely different, not confusing at all.
Pixels between tracks would be space for indicator, or put those options next to each other ?

I guess it's due to a lack of space on that preferences page.

Yes, perhaps these options should be on the same page.

Track icons area looks to be offset, now under-lapping both FL controls and group indication inside the panel. Maybe this is a known temporary issue while focusing on other things in +dev.

The discussion on CLAP Discord suggests hosts should do that, though. Because as Tale said, these are string-based IDs, not literal strings.

Documentation in plugin-features.h should be improved, then.

It's a poorly-defined behavior IMO, there should be an API to convert string-based IDs to user-readable strings. Requiring the host to mangle for display is asinine.

Right ok. Maybe a good idea to propose this on CLAP Discord then? ^_^;

All I know is, I don't really want to rename these categories AND rename plugins every time CLAP plugins are rescanned, because that's what's happening currently...

Yeah, IMHO CLAP is not as clearly defined as some would suggest...

Anyway, I agree it would be good if CLAP included some sort of helper to convert the categories to English, and maybe other languages as well. And there should probably be some sort of fallback for future and/or namespaced categories.

But I do think the host should include this helper, and not the plugin, to prevent duplicates and/or inconsistencies.

Some categories might not be named exactly the same across different DAWs, so the idea behind these string IDs is that host would do the mapping (rather than mangling!) of these IDs to categories that apply in their categorizing systems.

Relevant post on CLAP Discord from Robbert.

Probably language translations of the categories were left out of the CLAP spec?

EDIT: my point being that if the API gets the responsibility of converting IDs to strings it might get the responsibility to translate them too, unless the host is expecting a given string output for a given ID för doing the translation, which seems no to be very elegant.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Still, it would be good if the spec would at least say who (host or plugin) should do what (convert known IDs to user readable strings, what to do with unknown IDs). Anyhoo...

BTW, I've just uploaded an experimental version (Windows only) of our Kee Bass plugin with CLAP support, which is using the 'clap' branch of IPlug "Tale" Edition.
