First, thank you for taking care of this part.

But, although it is a nice try for better organisation of more elements I don't think it is a good idea otherwise.
Now it takes too much space all the time, the "single-line height" bottom border was non-problematic, this one "double-line height" already is problematic

also the "hint for right click is missing in new (although now there is so much space).

Or do we really need such long descriptive names on the UI? (there is also optional right-click menu with full names of the options), so maybe some shorter ones, abbreviations or anything like that so it could stay in single-height..

Maybe collapsible?

Agree, two rows of these controls for VKB is too much.

yes. Too much unused space in two rows. Maybe it is possible to do one row only and shorten the descriptions."Arrow keys" "All Inputs" and let a tooltip show the full description.
Another idea would be to show those control rows only on mouse over the bottom area of the keyboard. Normally you don't need to see it all the time once it is set as you need.

Default Creating/Editing take markers using Item or context menu.

Creating/Editing take markers using Item or context menu.

The position and length fields in the create/edit take marker dialogue are greyed out if you create or edit a take marker using the Item menu or context menu, or if you use the action "Item: Add/edit take marker at play position or edit cursor" to create or edit a take marker.

The only way of accessing the length parameter, beyond Ctrl-Shift-dragging it out, is to double-click the take marker to edit it, or use the marker/region manager; menu or action edits do not allow editing length.

Has this changed recently? I didn't notice it before.
If I run the virtual MIDI keyboard from the action list, keyboard shortcut or from a script, it takes a second or two to open the window when it is floating. If it is docked it opens instantly. I though, maybe it is my linux window manager doing strange things, but no, the weird thing is that if I open it from the View menu, it opens floating instantly.

I just tested 7.14 on Windows 10 and "VST: fix support for up to 128 buses [t=284552]" still does not seem to be working.

Thanks for all you do, devs.

What about the idea to use mouse up and down for adjusting the length of a take marker?

A preference for adjusting the height where take markers appear would be great too?

Well, please let me allow to share some thoughts.

When I'm comping takes and mark them (at the moment basically with colors), I don't judge them by good or bad.
I just mark what's worth to listen again and give them kind of priorities like "candidate to make it into the final comp" or "at least worth to listen again".

I'm trying to focus on the good

These tooltips remain open until you move your mouse over (or select) others tooltips. The same in the 7.14 version.

According to the Changelog, shouldn't it be 7.14+dev0404 and not 7.13+dev0404?
