Default Theme Adjuster - Imperial White Tie type layout MCP

Long time user (15 years), first time post.

Thanks for this and all the amazing updates over the years. The new theme adjuster is a great feature - thank you. Reaper is the best software I use or have ever used (any application).

Up until now my favourite theme has been a modified version of Imperial by White Tie, but one of the main reasons I like it is because of the layout of the Mixer, which has the meters right at the top and the faders at the bottom, with a relatively small section for the FX in the middle. I use plenty of FX but I don't make much use of the little boxes that show the chain, rather I tend to click the FX button (or do it in the Track/Arrange window).

Is there any way to get this kind of layout with the theme adjuster? Because it looks as if the FX boxes are always at the top or in a side panel, expanding as the display is made bigger, and much bigger than I'd ideally want them when using a big wide monitor. Have I missed something, and if not, could this option be added in future updates perhaps?

No, meter bridge layouts are not possible with this.

I'm trying to learn the new take markers actions and I've run into an unexpected thing with the action "Item: Delete takes that are down-ranked (no confirm)"

If you split an item, then add down rank markers to some items it will work right.
If you add any down rank markers to an item, then split it, and add uprank markers to the new items, that action will still delete all.

Ah, that's a bug, fixing, thanks. It should work as expected when the split is before the ranking marker, but it's not correct when the split is after the ranking marker.

I'm getting a big yellow line when I put a rank marker on a take, is that normal? If so, why?

Thanks for the update, I'm excited to start using some of these features.

You can ctrl-drag the size of that sections for all tracks down to zero.

happens with Item: Down-rank active take or last recording pass or Item: Up-rank active take or last recording pass

i guess it marks the whole take as bad/good. You can change the length of the marker by double clicking the marker

"Up-rank take" and "down-rank take" will create a take marker that spans the entire length of the item. "Up-rank take marker at cursor" and "down-rank take marker at cursor" will insert a take marker with no length. Both kinds of marker behave the same way when running actions like "delete takes that are down-ranked". The difference is that the first kind of marker will preserve the ranking if you later split or trim the item (for example, while comping).

Ah ok I see why the line is useful in that case, thanks!

When did RMS meters start using use the peak meter colors? Is that a bug to fix?

(I would have thought peak got it's own and anything not peak got the RMS meter)

Ah, there may be a bug there. In general, peak metering uses the theme images named like meter_strip_h, etc and loudness metering uses theme images named like meter_strip_h_rms, etc. If all tracks are metering peaks, or all tracks are metering loudness, then it looks like everything is working correctly. But if some tracks are metering peaks and other tracks are metering loudness, then the same color is incorrectly used for both. We'll look at fixing that.

Hi there.

I think I encountered a bug with the update.

When record mode is in "Time selection auto punch" and loop and time selection are linked, I can't record into lanes when loop-recording. Only takes are created. Used to work before.

If however I unlink loop and time selection then it works.

I tried to find a setting that would change this but to no avail.

Options menu, Overlapping recording behavior, Loop recording always adds takes. Make sure this setting is disabled.

Default White Tie appreciation

There doesn't seem to be a dedicated thread, so I'll say my thanks here.
Your work on the default themes is deeply appreciated by many users.

I'm going back to the Default theme because it's so good. Thanks!

As usual, much thanks to Justin and Schwa too, of course.

Thanks, it was disabled.

I think I got it working the way I wanted while fiddling with settings but now I discovered this:

I can't loop-record into lanes when recording has started outside of loop.

Just to clarify, all I'm changing between recording passes in the gif above is starting position.

Now I'm not sure anymore if it's always been like this or not? Can't remember. Is this intended behaviour and did something change with v7.17?

(I can start a new thread if this requires more discussion.)

great update Reaper Blog!

Is there any talk of being able to "show/hide all take markers"? Seems like after I've comped everything, I wouldn't want to see them any more most of the time, but would still want them archived in case I needed to go back for adjustments.

Love the new take markers, but I think being able to show/hide would be super useful. Thanks all!

Default Theme Bug ?

Theme Bug ?

For TCP, If I enable only the "If Not Selected" option for Meter Values then the track meters don't show/hide as expected with track selection at all.

Anyone else experienced some (but not all) settings reverting to default after updating? Can't recall this having happened before when updating.

In particular, the General, Undo, Paths and Backup tabs seems to have reset, as well as a few other settings, like "Show FX inserts in TCP".

"Unselect all track envelope points on arrange view click" does not work properely on an inserted envelope point that was just added, I have to click on another point and then the just inserted point for it to "unselect". Works on envelope points that are clicked on and marquee selected.

Default Rank markers

Thank you devs for the rank marker feature - a very welcome addition. I also really like the native actions that insert these markes 1 or 2 seconcds back in time, so practical.

Since the markers are themeable, and the stock ones look a bit scary ;-) I made some "better" ones: an ice cube for a meh take, and a fire icon for a good take!

(If you want to replace them in your theme, here they are. )

This new split mouse modifier selects items at both sides of the split. Was excited to see this implemented, but this behavior makes it useless. Always an extra step to de-select before e.g. slip editing. It would be great if none of the sides are selected.
Can you please look into it dear Schwa and Justin? Thanks!

The mouse modifier is exactly equivalent to the action "Item: Split item under mouse cursor (no change selection)", but the act of clicking on an item selects it, regardless of the mouse modifier used. If you don't want to select the item, you'll have to run the action via keystroke or controller.
