It does here (REAPER v7.22+dev0903a x64, Windows/Tiny11) and it always did with any prior version.

Can you try it with clean portable installation, just vanilla REAPER without any 3rd party extensions or scripts?

Windows/Tiny11 - REAPER v7.28+dev1211x64 - always opens in previous used folder on Insert keyboard shortcut.

(= if I browse and select WAV file from e.g. Download folder, later when pressing Insert key it opens in Download folder, etc.)

confusing. are you saying that was changed in that update or are saying what version you are testing?

Sure I only specified which version I relate my experience and testing to
because audioeditor bumped the thread with his longing problem of opening always in REAPER Media folder.
So it is not normal behavior and something is mis-configured (or script running) in his Reaper installation.
It would be good if audioeditor could try clean vanilla portable installation to verify.

(I already replied some time before, also specifying my then current version, the folder remembering was always working).

Hi,

I am also using the newest version of Reaper.

This is how it works for me.

When I open reaper and press insert, it goes to Documents - Reaper Media
If I delete Reaper Media folder, Reaper creates this folder.

If I open a project and save in Music folder, the insert is taking me to Music folder on the first try, later it works in their respective folders.

Did some digging. Its written into reaper.ini when you choose a new folder.

line 1282 (for me) "importpath="

if blank and project is unsaved it goes to Reaper Media Folder (default recording path for unsaved projects set in preferences/paths)

If project is saved and media folder exists it goes there (ProjectPath/Media)
If project is saved and no media folder, the project folder is shown
In both of these cases the importpath entry stays blank.

I insert file from my music folder on PC. I close and reopen Reaper, whether I create project or not, isn't reaper supposed to open the last used folder?

If you run "insert media file" and choose a file, the next time you run the action REAPER will open to the that directory, *unless* you chose the project media directory, in which case REAPER will open to the media directory of the current project. That is the intended behavior. Are you seeing something different?

I create Reaper session where my files are. For example, if I have to edit 4 files, I create a project inside that folder.

Reaper keeps going to Reaper Media every now and then for the insert media file command for existing projects (on many instances) and for new projects.

The Media Explorer Works like how it is supposed to work.

I'm sorry, it's still not clear to me exactly what behavior you are experiencing, and how it is different from the behavior you want.

1. For an unsaved project, Reaper is going to Reaper Media folder by default for "insert media" option for new projects.
2. For saved projects, Reaper is going to a Media folder inside the project directory when
Copy Imported Media to Project Media Directory is unchecked.
3. When this was checked it was going again to Reaper Media folder.

insert media was always opening the folder with name Media.

I even tried to delete that folder Reaper Media from my PC but Reaper is creating it again.

I would expect this insert media to work like the reaper media explorer in terms of folder memory.

Please, please, another plea to people not to say "newest version." What was the latest version when you posted won't always be. Quoting the version number will help make the post helpful to anyone with the same problem in the future.

Hi

Sorry about that, I am on Win 11 Home, was running Reaper 7.34 and now 7.35.

When I import/insert one file through the Insert Media Command, Reaper remember the folder most of the time.

When I import/insert more than one file, Reaper goes to My Documents/Reaper Media for the next import.

This has been happening even after reinstalling Windows and Reaper.

I also sent a video to the support.

That's a bug that we can fix, thanks for the video.
