Default For Request: Structure of project folder

IMHO, i think is necessary that the structure of the project folder will be divided by categories.

* Project Name (This folder will contain the RPP file and sub folders)

* Audio (This SUB-folder will contain audio files used in the project)

* Peaks (This SUB-folder will contain Reaper Peaks files used in the project)

* System (This SUB-folder will contain Reaper system files, like backups etc.)

So we can keep order and manage our project files more intuitive and fast!
If anyone has an idea or any constructive criticism, please post here and comment!!

Greetings and...

+1 +1 +1 +1 yes please. anything to make the folder structure a bit more organized. i might also suggest a Patches folder where vst/vi patches are stored by default via reaper's patch management.

in the meantime, i do all this manually, at least the audio files is relatively easy to setup. in project settings, just enter "Audio Files" (or whatever you want to call the audio folder) in the path to save media files. unfortunately, i have found no way to do this in any way other than globally for the backup files, so i manually create a folder, and drag all that stuff there at the end of the day.
i always keep a patches folder in my project directory too...so i never have to worry about losing a patch due to uninstall/reinstall, working on a different system, etc.

yes definitely +1

And if this is configurable (the folders and their names), so you can decide if you want a bunch of sub-folders created automatically, or not... even better.

Another one: Processed, this is where stems/glues/renders are placed by default. What do you think?

Hey GestionSP... I think you can edit your issue in the tracker and add that (It'd be great to keep all relevant information in the main issue post).

Gestion, since this FR was marked as duplicate, could you post your suggestions to the previous FR that still stands?

It's more well-voted also.

The messy main folder has really become a problem for me.

I would like a file structure in my project folders that looks like this:

RPP files
..peak files
..Backup files (RPP-bak)
..Audio files
..other stuff like effect setting etc.

Meaning, only RPP files in the main folder everthing else in sub folders.

REASON: I have more than once accidentally clicked a Backup file and started working thinking it was the RPP and all of a sudden a setting you thought you chanced is mysteriously back to where it was, and stuff like that. Major frustration. Plus if there is a gazillion different file types in the main folder it's sometimes hard to quickly find the newest RPP file, again accidentally clicking an older one spells major crap.

I don't love folder names like "system" which are not completely descriptive. backups can go in a "backups" folder etc...

a separate issue: media files should know and display (in the media browser) how they were generated in any case: i.e. rendered, imported, recorded etc. Sort by generation method would be helpful there.

+100 for organizing projects !

* Screensets / Keycommands.

A project may have its own screenset and keycommand files. Opened automagically if there are any in that folder, and saved optionally/updated when saving the project.
