Default "Starter" Signal paths for Kontakt 4 and SampleTank 2.5 and ...

The pictures below show the MIDI and audio routing into and out of 2 well-known multi-timbral VSTis - Kontakt (v4) and SampleTank 2.5.

Both VSTis offer internal routing possibilities too, but these should get you started.

For Kontakt 4 8-out with the excess MIDI channels deleted.

and, for SampleTank 2.5.

Default ... and two starter projects

Miroslav Philharmonik
http://forum.cockos.com/attachment.p...4&d=1378573787

Note that I have skipped outputs 1+2 - in Philharmonik all instruments automatically have a Send to a Reverb and the Sends always output on 1+2.

----------------------------------------------
A similar one for Kontakt 4, using 3 orchestral VSL instruments from the Factory library (if you have Kontakt 5, just edit the .rpp file in a Text Editor and change the name).
http://forum.cockos.com/attachment.p...6&d=1378653540

This has:
-- 16 'input MIDI' tracks, each Sending MIDI on a different channel
-- a multichannel Kontakt track
-- 16 stereo 'output audio' tracks, each receiving audio from a separate stereo pair of channels on the Kontakt track (one for each Stereo Mixer channel in Kontakt)
-- 4 stereo 'output Aux audio' tracks, each receiving audio from a separate stereo pair of channels on the Kontakt track (one for each Stereo Aux channel in Kontakt)
-- several 'unassigned' 'audio output' tracks; they were generated by Reaper, but are unassigned as my Outputs section in Kontakt does not use them; you can delete them or use them as you wish.

Thumbs up

Thank you!
It's a great addition to the forum.
Should be Sticky-ed and maybe added to the Multi-out VST thread!

Default For a multi-output Drum plug-in

This is the simplest way to get started:
(a) right-click in the TCP area below any existing tracks,
(b) select "Insert virtual instrument on new track",
(c) select the VSTi,
(d) click [Yes] on the "Build Routing confirmation" window; that will create tracks for all of the audio outputs from the VSTi.
Now you will have the VSTi track sending MIDI to the VSTi and several tracks for the audio outputs from the VSTi.

Within the VSTi, load your instruments and set the routing for each one - sending its audio to a particular audio output pair; depending on the VSTi you may need to do some additional configuration work within the VSTi itself (e.g. to create / enable the output channels).

Back in Reaper, name the audio tracks for the drum kit pieces. Colour the tracks as you wish. SAVE them all as a Track Template.

(e) open the FX window for the VSTi track (click the [fx] button),
(f) select [Options] >> "Build 16 channel of MIDI routing to this track",
(g) disable RecArm on the VSTi track,
(h) if Input Monitoring is Off for the "MIDI" tracks, select them all and turn it on (and turn it on in Preferences >> Track / Send Defaults >> Record config, for future use).
Now you will have 16 tracks sending MIDI (on channels 01 ... 16 respectively) to the VSTi and several tracks for the audio outputs from the VSTi.

Within the VSTi, load your instruments and set the routing for each one - receiving MIDI on a particular MIDI channel AND sending its audio to a particular audio output pair; depending on the VSTi you may need to do some additional configuration work within the VSTi itself (e.g. to create / enable the output channels).

Back in Reaper, name your MIDI tracks for their destination instruments and add the MIDI. Name the audio tracks too. Colour the tracks as you wish. SAVE them all as a Track Template.

FWIW I agree this should be sticky-ed either here or in the newbie section.

Attention MODS!

Once again, WHY is the Newbie section buried halfway down the list of forum sections?

Moving it up nearer the top somewhere would reduce the number of Newb problems posted in other areas, especially the bug reports.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yeah ivan, I think that's a good idea.
