LUFS for entire song in Reaper ?
Is there a script to scan an entire media item to determine the integrated LUFS of it like the external Orban app does ?

use SWS loudness analyzer functions on the item.

Don't forget to click the options in the lower right corner. Lots of useful tools in there!

I assume you have to first render your project back to a track and analyse that?
At present I play the track with the Youlean loudness meter on the master and watch what happens! Quite informative to see whereabouts your track wanders from your target LUFS.

Hi, Dr Bob,
I'm thinking this would be a good subject for further discussion. Would it be worth starting a new topic, or expand on it here?
cheers

The same-constant loudness throughout the song is boring!
But, if that's what you want you can compress & limit the heck out of it.

I agree with that. But it can help identify where there's some type of discontinuity … but then, your ears are pretty good at hearing that anyway!
I try to use only small amounts of compression, mainly at the track level, and then broad brush EQ the master, maybe a little saturation to make the highs shine a little, a touch of compression and limit.
Ideally, for me at least, I hope to do very little on the master - just tweak the "overall sound", and check freq range and loudness (depending on the intended "audience")

Target LUFS or any LUFS reading doesn't necessarily mean it's a constant loudness. It's reading an overall loudness.
But I get your point.

Indeed. Integrated Loudness - not looking at peaks or even trying to flatten it all out. Many agencies now require tracks to have a certain loudness contour, and if your overall loudness just pushes that envelope, then by watching the display as your track plays simply gives a "hint" as to where you might look. e.g., maybe you volume automated a few instruments in a certain section of the track and you slightly overdid it.
You might also just want to move the overall volume of the track down so those sections more or less hit that required level - so, NOT altering the overall dynamics, just aiming to satisfy those who require e.g. -14 LUFS etc …

With some plug-ins, such as MeldaProduction's LoudnessAnalyzer, you can monitor LU across the track:
>>> https://i.imgur.com/Kz3qayr.png
This shows the Momentary, Short-term and Integrated LU values over about 2 minutes. You can pick the LU Reference level, the Output Gain, what you want to display, the graph colours, the display timespan ...

We even have a script that does timecode-locked graphs.
Of course we, the users, asked for this many years ago. And we're now mostly relying on third parties to get it off the ground reasonably well. Unlike Nuendo. I bet $1 Protools has this before Reaper does.
But hey, no credit in my direction folks. Other engineers in fact asked for this the moment RTW presented its flexible little touchscreen meters... 10 years ago ? I don't remember. But I do remember the dead request here, that thanks to Heda, Yulean(Pro version is worth it) and many more folks, hurts less to remember.
