Just started playing with video features, some comments:

-Track Opacity/Zoom/Pan should be in pixels rather than arbitrary.
-Would be very useful to get control over blend mode (for opacity).
-Consider putting Track Opacity/Zoom/Pan into Media Item Properties rather than filter.
-Item Fades Affect Video should be the default behaviour without needing to add a filter.
-A fish-eye removal filter would be great for GoPro footage.
-Would be nice to get a filter that draws various guidelines over the frame. (safe borders, XY centres, rule of thirds)

All in all, pretty cool to see how video editing is progressing in REAPER.

Thanks!
Dax.

We also need actions to move forward/backward one frame, please.

"Transport: Fast forward a little bit" is too coarse.

I saw a couple in ReaPack. Filter for "frame".

Would also be great to have wet/dry (opacity) controls on video FX.

That has been already requested several times. And I guess its doable by reading out height and width of input video or project specification. If it will be considered still depends on how much priority video in Reaper gets. It seems that a lot of people use it and like it very much to do video but don't set to much focus on it.

Look into the brand new video section in this forum. You will find several user presets. One of them is wwwmaze's amazing blend preset which you could find here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=213043
A collection of more presets can be found here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=213832

Not sure if this is necessary. Those parameters get automated a lot and wouldn't fit into the actual workflow. But I guess you know that from other video software where those parameters usually are not effects.

-Item Fades Affect Video should be the default behaviour without needing to add a filter.
That's a nice idea but also has downsides if people have auto fade in/out on without knowing it affects video too. But I see where you want to go: To separate video item behavior a bit more from audio item behavior. Generally that makes sense.

Grandmaster wwwmaze just started with a brand new preset which offers image distortion for the first time in Reaper. Very exciting! From there its maybe not such a huge step to get an radial equalization.

As you ask that: Jon from the Reaperblog is just waiting for yoou to subscribe his mail service. He offers a small collection of presets where you can find kind of what you need.

Yes. And its good you raise the word as this only helps getting more focus on video.

And don't forget to browse the video forum. A lot of information and chances for questions are waiting for you.

Greetings
Eli

@Justin: is there some room for improvement for these MIDI editor issues?

https://forums.cockos.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=15

I remember, you fixed the sluggish scrolling in the MIDI editor with a different approach. This worked wonders.

welcome to the v5.0 beta. these comments are a bit out of place 4 years late.

"-Item Fades Affect Video should be the default behaviour without needing to add a filter."

I completely disagree. You don't want linked audio edits to change the video. jump cuts should be the default and one should use fade transitions only when indicating passage of time.

Hey Eli! Thanks for all of your replies. I didn't realise there was a dedicated video forum, I'll check it out. I'd recently seen all the video related updates in the +dev builds so figured this was the place.

I'll definitely check out wwwmaze's contributions. Thanks for the heads-up.

Cheers!

That's purely a matter of taste, your concept of aesthetics.

Really, I guess what should happen is that video files get 2 lanes (making use of the envelope lane structures already in place).

You can do this using the nudge settings window and its associated actions:

Alternatively, you can set your grid division to frames, your minimum grid spacing to zero pixels and use the move to grid division actions

I use these actions when editing.
Script: X-Raym_Move edit cursor to next frame.lua
Script: X-Raym_Move edit cursor to previous frame.lua

I think I modded those to make these (I'm always in 30 or 29.97nd grid)
Script: JT_X-Raym_move edit cursor 15 frames forward.lua
Script: JT_X-Raym_move edit cursor 15 frames back.lua

The build in nudge doesn't round to the frame if you start in between.

Yes! Much better on both Macs I'm using now.

Thank you.

While you're at it, here's a small nitpick:
Action that sets insert length to grid doesn't report toggle state (all others do)

heh-to be fair, maybe it's a simple mistake.. your inserting a certain length..and that looks to work according to them rules?
try smaller lengths of 1st insertions?

+what are these threads for anywayz? bug+failure+praising reports?
makes little sense to me if multiple people are 'testing' using multiple different versions to 'test' with?
+does anybody actually know cockos's benchmarking equipments?? mac? /win7? win10? linux? + testing audio devices??
all testing systems seems different as well..?

I don't understand very well what you mean.

Quote:

I am not able to reduce how I want the lenght of notes. So, for you, it works as expected ?

Quote:

Yes and what is it supposed to do ?

Once Reaper has stored a note lenght, I can't create a note shorter than the stored note. I use "Insert note, drag to extend or change pitch". There is no snap and double click.
