Have you tried 127.0.0.1 as an ip address?

The suggestion is up ^there somewhere but we already know my test app can open that and the assigned IP as a listener, and be contacted with no problem so can't tell why Reaper is unhappy setting up a TCP listener. On the surface it doesn't appear to be an issue receiving traffic but rather creating the listener to begin with (because it doesn't even show up in netstat).

I don't know how this works on windows, but could windows somehow think that it shouldn't allow the connection, either bug or by mistakenly disallowing it?

But in any case, I'd personally try 127.0.0.1 at least once just to see

I cannot try 127.0.0.1 from Reaper, since it takes my machine's IP in the local network (which is 192.168.5.15). Otherwise with karbo's port opener program it works just fine on that loopback, as expected.

I thought he did try the loopback address (that's right he can't) but the difference here is creating a listener vs trying to connect to one. It appears we cannot even create the listener to begin with so from that perspective things like firewalls aren't even in the picture yet. I wouldn't rule out some firewall or endpoint protection anomaly but typically the firewall cares about open ports that exist more than preventing one from being created.

^That being said, maybe manually exclude reaper.exe in defender just to be sane. I can't rule out it's ability to prevent creating the listener due to it's real-time protection since those can block at the process level.

Dammit Jim! And your are sure there are no other real-time products installed? Humor me by running cmd as admin then run FLTMC Instances

We could try a procmon but it's unlikely it will give the answer (tiny chance it will have a clue). Happy to look though.

Nope, fresh portable doesn't work either.

What do I do with procmon, just let it monitor Reaper process and try adding a web interface?

Nothing much there, there is an access denied for registry access to winsock params but a quick procmon of my machine shows the same and it eventually succeeds so that isn't it. Will report back when I think of the next idea. Summary in case Justin pops in...

[SUMMARY]

Cannot appear to create the listener.
Netstat et al, shows the port never gets opened.
Reaper.exe Exceptions are already in FW and Defender see #2.
Running as admin (test only) same result.
Fresh portable = same issue.
Procmon shows clean (so far).

TeamViewer wouldn't be good enough? It's what I usually use.

Thanks! E-mail sent!

Issue resolved one day after Teamviewing with Justin - the fix is in 5.65 RC3, there's an undocumented change to use SO_REUSEADDR (whatever that might be)... it certainly helped. I now have web interface working both locally (in Iron/Chrome and Edge, after I fiddled with Local Intranet settings in Internet Options, but not Waterfox/Firefox for whatever reason...) and on my Windows Phone.

Yay Justin!

EDIT: Works in Waterfox now, too. Perhaps I had to clear the cache, or something.

Excellent, that's a flag in SetSockOpt IIRC. Did you by chance ever reboot when it wasn't working?

I reboot at the end of every day when going to sleep... It wasn't working all this time, until 5.65 RC3
