Default Reaper Performance

Hi. I don't like Reaper performance with 5.40 version. I don't know that reason. But I decided to reinstall old 5.0 version, same config etc. Opened the project. There's 57 tracks audio in my project. A lot Fx online ( insert-send..)

5.40 version - performance meter - total CPU %50-80 and overload - Summary : Pops-Clicks
5.0 version - performance meter - total CPU %10-14 - RT CPU %0.9-Max %2 - Summary : Superior

macOS Sierra 10.12.6
Macbook pro 2013

Any idea ?

I am also under the impression that the performance has taken a big hit lately.

a couple things I remember from the change logs that might affect performance

1 - Preference/General/Advanced UI/System tweaks
display updates

2 - Project Settings - new extreme mode, all other modes improved

options/general/ advanced ui system tweaks : automatic ( optimized drawing on macOS ) selected
project settings/ playback resample mode : medium selected

5.40 performance : total cpu : %40, RT CPU : %70-80-Overload
5.00 performance : total cpu : %10-15, RT CPU : Max %2 ( project settings/ playback resample mode : extreme selected )

So, there's a huge difference between the versions. I think Reaper need the performance, not the automation items like worthless things.

Countdown for AI fans to track down this post has started...

In fact, Reaper needs EVERYTHING! Urgently!

reaper needs automation items, not leaky automation containers being described as automation items

Wondering what you guys are doing to get those sorts of figures.
I am running a fairly old win10 pro machine - i7 4770 quad with 16 gb of ram, use a LOT of VSTi and FX plugs and never get even close to that amount of cpu hit you are seeing in either version. Come to that, I am seeing little or no difference running the same project in 5.1 and 5.4 versions.

It would be very helpful for you to narrow it down to the specific version that changes the behavior. then we can investigate why. E.g. try 5.25, then if that is slow, 5.11, etc.

Automation items are FAR from worthless.

Cockos is still working hard on AI, improving the concept, bugging it out.
And to be honest, i think Cockos has been doing a great job implementing AI and, although not "perfect" (subjective word) AI are pretty workable already for me and i guess for others too.

Your bold post is not motivating anybody, including Cockos.
So you know.

Have you seen any FR about AIs? Just open, read and watch. You will be probably surprised.

I don't care about any further FR's for AI.
There will always be dozens of FR's about any aspect in any DAW, Reaper AI included.

Give Cockos some slack, thats my point only.
They already bringing out regular Reaper pre-release updates out at an enormous pace, focussing especially lately on AI improvements.
Mawning about missing AI features, improvements et etc is utterly disrespectful towards Cockos.
They are just the 2 of them u know, no 10's of employees, like at Steinberg which utterly missed the boat with their failing Cubase 9 and Nuendo 8 releases :0)

I know that. Furthermore, I don't care about Steiny. What I meant is that AI now are not items, but just containers. So why they're called Items? You know what? AIs will be improved like Notation editor, but later, so I'm comfortable with that. That's why I like Cockos' policy.

Do you have spectral peaks and/or spectogram enabled?

If so, try going back to Peaks mode:

Version 5.00 better than 5.40 for recording and mix. Changes behavior unfortunately CPU usage.
