Default Reaper Video Help

I also posted this on the General Discussions, but this seems like the better place to put this.

I am trying to work with videos on Reaper, but whenever I try to import a video, I get the same message that it cannot import the video. I have tired downloading a vlc version 2.2.8 in order to run it on Reaper, but Reaper does not recognize it.

I am using Reaper 64bit on Windows. Also, I seem to already have ffmpeg-3.4.1-win64-shared installed into the plugins. VLC does not seem to be connected.

Can anyone help me? I have tried to go to the forum post that seems to be everyone's go to, but I am still stuck. I'd like to know what I am doing wrong.

Thank you.

Please go to Preferences->Media->Video->Rex/Misc

Click on the show available decoder button to make sure Reaper knows your decoders. If you find nothing there, you have to make sure that VLC has its standard location and/or the ffmpeg.exe is in the "user plugins" directory. To find "user plugins" go to Options->"show Reapers recourse path ..."!

If Reaper finds your decoders but still can't open the videos, there must be something wrong. Can you open those videos in VLC?

Just check those things and write what comes out.

I re-downloaded VLC 2.2.8, and when I went to where you mentioned in Reaper, it tells me that I do have ffmpeg plugins, but that VLC is not found.

Where do I put it so that it can find it?

Thank you.

You don't have to download 2.2 because since V5.90 (guess) Reaper supports VCL 3.0. Usually Reaper finds VLC automatically. Is VLC in your decoder priority list? (right under the "available decoder") Try to reset it. Try to download VLC 3.0 and install it without old settings. There are threads in the forums where people had similar problems.

I'm in a hurry right now. Sorry.

Hello,

I went to another thread, but the issue is still not resolved. I downloadedVLC 3.0.3, and put it into the VLC folder again, but I just do not understand what I need to do now. It simply refuses to check for VLC anywhere.

How do I fix this? I do not know how to activate the VLC checker.

Thank you.

I thought the recommended version was 3.0.3, which is why I got it from:

http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...c/3.0.3/win64/

Windows 64 bit. I downloaded the 7z.

Where do I put it? Or how do I make Reaper see it?

Thank you.

For the VLC 3.0.3? When you download it as a zip, it doesn't have one (Or I cannot see it?)

VLC works fine, it just DOES NOT link to Reaper.

Now I understand your problem. You downloaded the zip file which contents the portable version.

You need to download the installer: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.4/w....0.4-win64.exe

I do not know why, but I believe this fixed it. I can now import videos.

Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate it!

If only some nice person would have made a Reaper manual. A manual with a chapter about video. And also how to install VLC (an exe file).....
Isn't it great that there actually is a very kind guy called Nicholas who did this? Hey, you can even buy a printed version if that's more your cup of tea. And there are tutorial video's, lots of tutorial video's. From Kenny, from Jon (Reaper Blog). And from a lot of others.
Have fun reading and watching!
