Hi again all,

Just to confirm, I'll be keeping an eye on these forums where possible but I direct most of my time to email queries. Therefore please do direct queries over to us if you're having specific issue -> http://global.focusrite.com/answerbase/contact

With interfaces dropping off of the USB bus, we'd ask for as much information as possible to re-create the problem in house. As many users have pointed out, we'd recommend following our guide on optimising your PC for audio as a starting point.

It is also worth noting that both USB driver and Chipset driver updates can often remedy this problem. Head over to your computer manufacturers website to confirm if updates are available if you are experiencing such issues.

We're keen to support all our users.

Many Thanks - David @ Focusrite

i got a idea. connect a powered usb hub to the mainboard. may be a 4 port hub with a powersupply that delivers 2 ampere of electrical current at 5 volts. attach it direct to the usb-plug of the mainboard, no other hubs in between. that will increase the total powercapacity of the usb bus on the mainboard. may be it helps.

This is the exact same problem I had with my previous interface (Native Instruments' Audio Kontrol 1). Recording would just stop all of a sudden because the interface would reset. Music playback in Windows Media Player, etc would also stop randomly when the interface reset.

I fixed it by getting an internal powered USB hub (http://goo.gl/eixsV0) and an extra USB bracket (http://goo.gl/sdQhDz) and only used those ports for the interface. Zero resetting after that.

It felt to me like some sort of a power supply or driver problem on Windows' part. Another thing I recommend doing (this is W7, don't know about Windows 8) is setting the Windows sound driver to the same kHz/bits as the ones in the interface's own control panel. At least on two interfaces I've had, this has removed high frequency noise.

Control Panel > Sounds > (click on your output device) > Properties > Advanced tab > you'll see it's defaulted to 44khz, 16-bit, choose 48kHz/24-bit or whatever you're actually using.

I had the Scarlett 18i6 I could never get to work correctly with my usb3 ports.
It was buggy bugger. LOL!
Focusrite tried to remedy the situation to no avail.
Recently bought a new Focusrite 18i8 and they seem to have worked out the bugs. FWIW.

Thought #2: Thought 1 makes no sense because the monitoring just stops and hitting record yields a fat pile of nothing.
Do you get an error when this happens, or does it just not work?

Do you per chance have an web browser open when this happens?
