Default New game screen revamp sneak peek

So I've been reworking the New game screen, check it out:



(The weird colors are from the Debug ROMs in the PalmOS emulator.)

And here's what it looks like with the popup selected:



If you pick Select player... then the player list is gonna pop up so you can select a player. Still working on that part.

So this is partly UI revamp, and partly about adding in support for Open slot games. Whatcha think?

Great stuff Brennan!

My only suggestion is for different phrasing of "Open slot" which seems a bit drab and jargonesque.

Cant think of anything brilliant either, perhaps,

open challenge
seek opponent
seek any opponent
create table
invite challenger

Also; will we still be able to type in a player's name (vs scrolling thru a list?)

Hi Trg, thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, it's hard to phrase the concept of "someone will join this game later" with only a word or two. I like the word "Open" in there but it's not that specific when it's by itself.

Here's my latest iteration:


I do want to keep the ability to enter in names with the keyboard. I haven't figured out quite where to implement it yet though. Maybe a Search box on the player list popup, or a button. We'll see...

OK, so the previously seen screen was released in 1.07t3. Now, here's my final(ish) tweak before 1.07 final:



Basically now the opponent text field is back, so you can type in, say... 'chessbot'. Someday maybe there will be a cool AI selector GUI but for now, this should work nicely. And the '...' button (any ideas for a better (tiny) label?) will popup the player list still.

Maybe SP or SEL for Select Player, since that is the name of the screen one is taken to?

Or maybe a List icon of some type?

Hmm yeah, this is what icons were invented for, pretty much. Good point. But for now let's see how "..." works
