Can We Have A Like Button & a Dislike Button on the forums, for Quick Opinions????
I read some of these threads, but sometimes i would just like to say "Yes", "No", Or..add my opinion... without the hassle, which can be daunting to some people... it also gives a general feedback off how people feel on a particular subject. A bit like err.. Farcebook... you get the drift/.
Saves time, speeds up opinions...

Facebook like buttons are for people who cannot or don't want to bother expressing themselves. Aren't they?

not everyone has much more to say besides "+1" or "yup, sounds good"
unless you want to write useless paragraphs of reiterations

msore's logic here is: unless you have something to say or copy/paste, you are not allowed to agree!

No that is not my logic. My point is that a yes button (or even a yes/no button (which is NOT what FB gives) is lacking in human information. If humans are going to act like humans, more information is required than a stripped down digital yes/no.
That is the way machines work. That is not the way humans communicate.
JBM, you teach kids, right? Should curriculum and assignments by replaced by just having kids see stuff on the screen and then click on a YES button when they like it?
To a great extent, that is happening - in popular and media culture at least - and yes in schools too. What kind of education will that turn into?
I value humans, communicating at their best. That's my logic.

Is it paranoia when everyone can see it happening?
Here are two questions for anyone running a business or managing a team:
Would you rather hire someone who can agree with what you say ("LIKE"), or would you rather hire someone who can say why they agree or disagree, and propose alternatives?
And secondly, which of those two kinds of young people is increasingly coming into job interviews?

are you denying our need to have an opinion simply because it matches up with someone else's?

Don't forget a shrugging option for those undecided but simply wanting to be present for roll call.

It would be the slippery slope to shitdom IMO.
I post less and less eloquently now as am often on a tablet and typing is a pain, i feel that degrades the human factor of a once pleasant place, and i cry a little.
if it also becomes about getting 'likes' or avoiding dislikes, its the end of humanity and civilisation as we know it and more importantly serves no purpose really.
Edit: 'quick opinions' reminds me of the "Max Power" way -

+1 + -1 = 0
Maybe every national ballot should have a section where voters can write a short essay next to every candidate's name instead of just checking a box. Otoh, the check means "I've heard your positions and I agree."

The vote wasn't also the campaign though.
If I post 'change the grid lines' and get a bunch of dislikes, we learn very little I get upset and miniature flame wars break out within minutes.
You'll remember fr voting in the fr tracker, that led to disappointment mostly.
Edit: Don't want to upset the OP BTW who has an innocent helpful suggestion, I just happen to believe it would not add value.

I've seen some forums have "reputation points" Which you can hand out for posts. But I prefer the idea of just +1 something, on the forum, rather than collecting something like karma.
Sometimes someone says something funny, or cool, and all I want to do, is give them props for it, or express agreement with what they said.
It would be cool if it would show who +1'd it also.
No -1 though, I think there is enough conflict as it is. Or,.. idk, maybe -1 wouldn't be so bad either. Might reduce some comments to just -1, rather than conflict...

if you get upset because someone doesn't like the idea and you start a flame war, then maybe there's the problem right there.

You mean like, the internet?!
My point was it offers no insight or debate and can lead to marketing of posts for votes rather than content focus.
Just my opinion!

couldn't agree more. Technically, it's not guns that shoot people, but it's still a bad idea to leave them lying around, because people will use them.
You know what I mean? if negative voting would cause conflict, it would be easier to remove negative voting than try to teach people to live in harmony.
Sad, but true.
