cool. I'd want to have the ability to switch it to looking like this... it would be SOOOOOOO funny to use reaper when you get that douche of a client that requests pro tools. I can even spoof the PT icon since I'm on a mac and it won't show up in the title bar... hahahaahah.

Hahahaha! Good point I never thought of myself. Avid uses another one in their marketing infomercial machine: "Today you cant be an engineer and not know how to work Pro Tools" or "When people walk in and see a PT system, everyone can say I can use that, I know how it works" etc. Well I say that's good. You can now also use REAPER with the same knowingness.

LOL! Easy to do on PC also. In fact, we should slightly change it and add, "Pro Tools Native 10.3.1". Tell the client you personally know and hang out with the Avid developers.

Complaints or requests? (which have remained the same for the past decade) Even though a decade has passed, they're still requests in my books.

A video of it in action or making it? I still have to assign the functions which will just open up the marker, region, tempo and timebase windows as they do in PT.

Very curious about how you are going to achieve this one Shane without the use of some serious under the hood coding work. Unless there's a way to reposition toolbar buttons to specific places on the tool bar and make them look like the "+" sign of course!

I'd just like to see how it behaves so far, I understand you still have work to do on it. The image suggests some things happening that frankly, I didn't know were possible and/or some things that may precipitate me moving to V3...
So please... end the suspense. I mean, if a person can hack in rolling panels like in your pic that would seem to open up a world of possibilities for the UI.

This implementation is a fine example of a company who actually really worked with the user base behind the scenes on this. They listened, and delivered!
Avid just listens...and nothing more.
This new feature is a HUGE game changer. This one small feature alone has 1 up'd Pro Tools(and Logic) in this area. It's not just the same, it's better.

NO, they are FREE to download for EVERYONE!
You install on your own responsibility, though. However, if something goes wrong, you can just run over the last working version, and all will be fine!

Go to the Pre-Release Discussion Forum for beta testing, bug reporting pre-releases etc:
http://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=37
Go here to grab the newest pre-release builds:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=22836
We're not aloud to post a direct link to it from "anywhere".
Beta testing in REAPER is open to all who want to venture into that area. There is no corporate NDA crap and a "select chosen few". The whole concept of a "REAPER 4.x" leak exposing new "innovative DAW feature secrets" does not exist so the Cockos share holders should be safe...I mean...oh ya...there isn't any...or a board of directors telling the devs what to do...
They trust their users, and beta testers.
Shane

The only similar quality I have to Avid is I'm slow getting this out the door and taking forever. You can blame them for the direct unintentional influence. I thought it was suppose to be like this.
But...you can blame Cockos for my extreme attention to detail and making sure everything completely works as demonstrated and put forth before it gets released into the wild.
On the serious side, the speed thing is caused by the pretty big learning curve as I venture on with this sort of thing.
Shane

Clicking on the "+" signs in PT will simply open the related dialog box or perform an action. The same will be done in REAPER as they all have associated dialog boxes. I can achieve this using some clever White Tie UI hacks, or AutoHotKey to invoke the dialog boxes. My main concern with AHK is I wont be able to get this going on the Mac side of things, as AHK is PC only. I'm doing my best to keeping this cross platform. These are just "sneaky", but functional, hacks so to speak.

Ok, I haven't launched PTLE in ages so yeah, I forgot about that. For some reason I was thinking those things exposes/hides parts of the timeline/ruler/markers etc.
Thanks.

Ah...now I got you. Understood. There is a pull down arrow in the main selected timeline ruler that does exactly that which you mention. One can also right click to access this:
It basically shows/hides the rulers one wishes to see. This I wont be able to do. I'm adding the "+" sign functionality plus the labeling of what those rulers are for:
Pro Tools:
REAPER:
Hopefully that clarifies better to anything I miscommunicated.

Shane just curious what about the new overlap behaviour is better than how it is in Pro Tools? I think it's perfectly fine but even when they fix the bugs I can't see any difference between what we are getting and how Logic works. Pro Tools does have on difference being that when you overlap something from the side, it doesn't actually delete what's underneath while Reaper does, but I prefer the Reaper way tbh, I want what's being overlapped to be trimmed away completely.

For the people who'd like to play Quicktime on an x64 system with Reaper x64 :
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=55712
It's a good video update. Looping and scrubbing works a lot better now. So far it's for Windows. Quicktime probably works a lot better on Macs anyway.
Get testing.

I have a list a mile long. In PT, it's the blind leading the blind. Your waveform peaks disappear when you edit which make it a big guessing game. The dual trim and dual TCE(not found in PT) round this out in many ways that both Logic and PT just cant touch:
Logic has a few bugs(even with it's dual trim) and isn't efficient as the REAPER version will be when complete. There are now editing methods that topple both of those apps:
The above aren't the best examples and only illustrate PT's blind editing, but I'll definitely be posting tutorials on REAPER editing versus PT editing. REAPER accels in many areas by light years, even without area selection. REAPER is quickly making it difficult to consider editing in Pro Tools.
Shane

Shane,
Watching those latest videos are freakin me out !!! So cool, so cool.
I'm waiting for a more of an Elastic Audio/Flex Time workflow.
That is one thing I'm using quite a bit on the current projects.
But, Man o Man, when they implement that, along with your mods, it's the end of the world !!!
And early too !!! (2010 as opposed to 2012. LOL).
Very inspiring stuff !!!

Haven't had time for the last several months to check the user fora (DUC and REAPER), as much as I wished and liked.
The show production schedule has been packed totally and now the NAB is coming up , but...
... when I got into this REAPER FORUM THREAD I thought I clicked the DUC bookmark by mistake .....
.... TOM@METRO, nikki-k, guitardom, RussUK... WHAAAT??? !!!... couldn't believe my eyes, so great to see you here!... sorry RussUK I was too harsh with my comments sometimes on the DUC ... and of course the brightest DUC Star Shan'ing so bright from creative excitement ... again .....
It feels like the DUC in 2004, when I joined it
... Keybeeetsss anytime soon ?
... How about the DTS (DigiTechSupport)... are they going to visit this place (and stay here) as well ??? ... No, that could be to dangerous

I would imagine DTS is here in his real persona. He seems too level headed to buy into all that Avid BS in real life. LOL.

That's a distinct possibility!!
I remember the DUC as it used to be in the days when I was using a 001 in my studio and a Mix + with an 888 in a friend's studio.
Reaper forums are indeed much more like those days, when posts on the DUC were about making music rather than fixing WNB's and DAE errors (although WNB's and DAE errors were still haunting us).

No offence taken, perhaps I was also a little green about what I thought AVID would deliver on, so tried to defend them, which I know wound some people up. So welcome Robert, good to have you here friend.
