Default Problem with Wine on Ubuntu Studio 20.04

Hi,

I wanna try Spitfire LABS Discover and I install Wine. Running winecfg via terminal and getting this errors. Can't install Wine-Gecko, Wine-Mono. Been searching but I can't find any solutions. I think that's why I can't install Spitfire LABS app. Tried the same thing on Xubuntu, same errors.

Could not find Wine Gecko...

I think PlayOnLinux does have choice of what WINE you want (list of choices) and will install gecko/mono just fine, i thhhink..

When i was on Manjaro, i could just manualy pick what ever WINE in Octopi "Synaptic" and picked Gecko/Mono manualy with the highest version number, not saying this is the correct way though but hey what ever works

I had a similar problem awhile back on Mint, I think it had something to do with a name changing in a repository.
It still won't install from the command line for me but I am able to install wine and PlayonLinux through the native Software Manager GUI.
Every time I run apt update it does say the 4 wine packages are upgradable, but I can't update them from the command line.

Wine is working pretty well for me for the most part though, besides a couple plugins I still can't get to play nice.

Also worth repeating here, i almost dismissed Massive X if it was not for me trying dedicated process also, and that worked in REAPER, so i mean, what if other plug-in would also like that treatment but got a Nope-stamp? just remember to try that also (because you can) dedicated.
The technical-why, iiiii dunno..

Massive X and Raum are tough cookies. They worked OK for me in
Reaper with wine-staging 4.2, but not in staging 5.6 and later.
Massive X 1.3 works in wine 5.0 Stable. Nice to have a sizeable gui!

X and Raum look like they use a new graphics engine/code
and the newer wines tossed up cryptic/psychicgui errors.
Now using Ubuntu Studio 20.04 with Wine 5.0 Stable
by way of wineHQ, annnnnnd wine-staging 5.8 in Studio 19.10

Good to hear you made an important discovery
regarding Massive X, and perhaps other plugins
thought not workable.
Cheers

Spitfire is troublesome even for hardkore windows users.
If a friend has it on windows, find it's installer log,
or manually track down it's paths, maybe use cabextract
to open the installer contents.

Put these words in google, for videos guides
and install discussions that might help:

spitfire labs installation trouble

I've read where in some cases. installing gecko and mono may interfere
with a plugin/standalone's own functions. Based on how convoluted
the Spitfire system currently is, I'd be surprised if they didn't write their own code for such things.
BlueCat, Native Instruments, IK Multimedia among others,
will install their own home-cooked versions of windows code,
and what a pot of rubber spaghetti that could be!

I had LABS installed once, but it would never scan in Reaper.
Hope you get it going!

And at the time not many moons ago, even Replika worked (almost) but.. had GUI issues, was only doing a quick fly-by test only, pure luck i tested dedicated
Was on Manjaro at the time and i really hope what distro we are on does not matter so much? for the investigation-ease..
That said, a year ago when i was even noob'ier, i have had Replika working, did not take notes though, think i just Tarzan'ed my way through hehe

Wish all the devs had WINE/Proton in mind if they have no plans for Linux Native when makeing new gizmos, could at least use stuff & ways they think would make it easy for WINE, or something.
It is not like penguins don't have a wallet.. hello! more market!
Still distrohopping so that is my main reason WINE and all that is on hold atm
