Use your own favourite reverb and make an ir of that. Then use that in your project... Would that be cheating?

No. ReaVerb is designed to use IRs, so use whatever one(s) you like.
I got a load of Brocasti M7 impulses from somewhere for nowt - barely scratched the surface of using them but I think the ones I've played with work fine.
I've also discovered the 18b cut in ReaVerb and with filters and EQ on the verb as well you should be able to get it to do whatever you want.

I agree, with the right IRs, and there's a lot of free ones, ReaVerb sounds as good as most any verb.
The only thing I dislike about ReaVerb is it can cause significant latency, but that's only during the recording process, so for mixing or playback, there's no problem.

I think with a given IR, any convolution reverb should sound basically the same. Some of them might have different ways they can treat the IR, but IR is IR, it will sound like that room. And that's well and good.
My problem with them though, is that you don't have as much control over the reverb as with an algorithmic reverb. Algorithmic reverbs tend to try and give you the whole range, from a small room to a large one. Some are more specific than that, but still, there is a good range of control there.
I prefer that, because I can load up the reverb, I know what it sort of sounds like, and what it can do, and I can go in there and dial in exactly what I want for a given application.
For convolution reverb, it's more complicated than that. I have to try a bunch of different IRs, find out which ones I like for what sort of thing, and then fine tune them, and EQ them. I just don't really like them quite as much a lot of the time.
I'm sure I could find a great one for any given application, but there are some algorithmic reverbs that I just really like a lot, and I have not found IRs that are comparable.
That said, maybe I should start browsing through some for some of these contests, and I might find a few I like. Maybe for the next one I will do that.

Loudness
I'm using Toneboosters TB_EBULoudness for checking levels.
I know it doesn't matter here, but my loudness meter are sky rocketing in the heavy parts.
It's that ok generaly speaking?
What are the 'guidelines' regardin loudness. Not speaking about the loudness war.

You want your whole song to measure out -14 LUFS and peak at -0.1 Trupeaks, I do believe. All the details should be on the first page of this thread.

I don't have time anymore this week, so it ends here for me. I could probably tweak forever, so it's not a bad thing to be forced to finish it. Looking forward to hear all the submissions. Good luck!

1. render your song with your limiter active, and check 'add rendered items to new tracks in project'
2. actions: analyse loudness
3. select the track with your rendered song and press 'analyse selected items'
4. in the results: rightclick the result of your track, select normalize..., set to -14 lufs
5. solo your track, bypass your masterfx, and render to flac
that's how I did it last time, and that worked

Not really my genre either, but an interesting challenge.

I will definitely be submitting one, so there's at least one more.
I personally think this was the best source files we've had, out of the ones I participated in.

Yeah and they sing in tune!
The gated vocals in the end was a bit disturbing.

Ya. I have a few comments about the gated vocals, but I think it should probably wait until after the votes are in.

Ok guys all the submissions are online. You can go on the website in the "submissions" page to listen to them and in the "voting" to vote.

Nice, but is there a zip file with all submissions to download? I prefer to rate offline in my daw the mixes.

Voted. Allthough the voices are in tune, they had to be thickened in one way or another. I found it very hard to mix the different parts of the song without losing the energy of the song (especially where it needs energy ). One of these days I'm going to check my mix with the one I voted for, and see how I can improve it.

For fairness, I have to say that Mix 6 is 2.4 LUFS and Mix 8 is 1.3 LUFS louder than 14 LUFS. You should consider this when comparing.

Heh, I confess to voting for both of them. Not that I wouldn't have voted for them if they were a couple DB quieter, but who knows. I assumed everyone was complying with the LUFS rule, didn't think to check.

This makes a significant difference. Thanks for pointing that out. I think mix 6 could have shaved some of that off easily enough by turning down the deep subs of the kick, and some treble which I found was a little too present.
I took not following the guidelines into consideration. For me, that's borderline being disqualified, but since we are a small group, and it's just for kicks, I just sort of knocked off a couple of points in a general way in my mind.
I found overall the projects were too wet with reverb, and/or had the vocals too deep in the mix, which these two didn't have so much.
So, my votes would definitely have turned out differently were it not for the fact those two went over the LUFS requirements. 2.4LUFS is a LOT. So is 1.3, really.
It makes a substantial difference, because they don't sound so much louder, but if you set them to the same LUFS, that would make them sound more weak. That's why it's really borderline disqualification for me, and if it was more serious competition, then no question I think it should be. It's not really a fair comparison like that.

There is a word scarcia, or something hopefully close to that lol, (I am just going off memory) that appears on the right side of each file entry on the submissions tab of the website. I assume it's the swiss word for download. Click that, and you can download that track.

Sorry about the loudness thing... loudness was introduced was to avoid trying the level match the submissions, but if people don't pay attention to it, that's a problem.
About the download... Lol I was sure to have set the website in English, so I'm not quite sure why you see the text in Italian ("scarica" means download it and Swiss is not a language ). But yeah, you can now dowload either the usual zip with all the anonymous submissions or download a single track "click on scarica".
One last thing I need to ask you. Recently I had a lot of thing going on and didn't see a submission a user had sent me. I'm not saying the name for the sake of the contest, but now we have 9 submissions. So, if you afree I would delete all the 5 votes I've received so far.
Sorry about all the mistakes I'm doing recently... Too many things for a single person (not just the contest, in general) and this is the result

That's ok, not your fault. To me, that's part of the contest to follow the guidelines. It's a shame there isn't an easier way to to be able to test whether they all meet the proper requirements. It's just one of those things I think, where there isn't a good solution. Just hopefully someone notices, or someone checks, and if not, then it's just trust.

Lol. At first In my mind I thought you were swedish, so I was going to say that, but then I checked and saw switzerland, and so thought about what language they spoke there, and came up with nothing, so I just went with swiss. What language do they speak there?
I also would have never guessed "scarica" was italian for download. It's not like french or english or spanish, which is unusual for italian words, and it also doesn't appear to be the infinitive form of the verb. Which it might be, idk, or it might the noun version or imperative form something.

I'll check it out.
EDIT: Just noticed the giant arrows lol. I think I see the submissions giant submissions download button now. I actually prefer that way, because it lets you more easily compare certain parts, and also delete entries that you've eliminated from contention.
EDIT2: I can't vote again, but I would voted the same way. Although this one might have been kind of close, like maybe 4th or 5th or 6th place.

Exactly, the only way to check if people are following the rules is to the check the loudness of each entry as soon as I get it, but some people send theirs at the last minute, so it wouldn't work out.

Switzerland is a multilingual country and we have 3 (actually 4 but one is spoken by very few people and is not taken seriourly) official languages: German, French and Italian. In school we also learn English. So if you are good, you can potentially be fluent in 4 languages. I live in a region in the south near Italy and Italian is therefore my mother tongue but if I went to Zurich I would probably speak in English because I'm lazy af (even though I can speak and understand German quite well).

Italian has evolved from Latin and because of that is very similar to Spanish. The roots of many words are in fact almost identical. I can understand a few things in Spanish without having ever taken a single class.

To me that's very helpful too, but I think that at this point was essential to have a simple place where it was possible to quickly compare all the entries.
