Default [SOLVED] MIDI Editor: Right click marquee doesn't work on all MIDI Items

What I want to do: Right click marquee in MIDI editor so multi select notes

What happens: It works in some MIDI items, it doesn't in others

Have a project open right now. I can right click marquee in the drum item, works like it should. Try the same in piano or brass item, just doesn't. It's always the same ones where it works, so it doesn't like randomly change. But I have no idea why it works in some and not in others.

I've compared each and every setting, they're absolutely the same..

I'm running out of ideas what could be the cause.

Edit: One more observation: After I shift-click to select a bunch of items because marquee doesn't work in this particular item, I then can DESELECT with marquee easily.

EDIT2: Just encountered an item where I can marquee and some notes are selected, while the others not.. drives me crazy..

Yes did a restart and everything...

Check your MIDI editor track list. (contents menu). Make all items visible and editable. Does that fix it?

Maybe you have the MIDI editor set to edit a specific MIDI channel and the stuff you can’t marquee is on a different one? To check this look at the bottom right corner of the editor, there should be a dropdown where the channel selection can be done. It may read something like “Channel 1”. You want to set it to “All channels” to get out of this situation. Now you should be able to marquee them all, no matter which channel they are on.
The same setting can also be done in the piano roll’s filter dialog (a checkbox labelled “all”) or with the action “Channel: Show all channels”.

Hope this is it.
If so, you might want to set all of your MIDI events to be on the same channel. As long as you don’t have a specific reason to use multiple channels it is easiest to keep them all on the default channel 1.
To do this do ctrl A (on a Windows computer) to select all events and then right click inside the piano roll area (where your note event are) and choose “Note channel” from the menu. Despite the name it will also change any other event (CC, pitchbend…) that is currently selected.

You made my day, that was the solution... Thanks a lot!!!

:-)

Edit:

Using lots of Midi channels is an old habit from the days when I mostly used multitimbral instruments (hardware). Nowadays I hardy ever use multitimbral plugins at all. So I already changed my current project to all MIDI Ch.1 and I'll make that my new workflow.

Thanks for that suggestion too!

PS.: Using Reaper > 10 years and never ever thought about these two tiny little drop downs in the right lower corner... Now I did. :-)
