Files still locked after closing project tab

Steps to reproduce:
1) open a project
2) new project tab
3) add some audio to the new project tab
4) close new project tab
Files should be released at this point, but they are still locked

Bug workaround:
After step 4 above, create a new project tab. Now the files will be released, but they should've been released when the project got closed.

In my options, run background project is NOT checked. I'm not sure if this has any effect on anything.

Just in case: Do you have any background-scripts running?

And which operating system did you use and which Reaper version had this problem?

No BG scripts running, problem still persists in reaper 6.11 x64

Could you post your reaper.ini? Maybe the devs can see something in there.
