Intrmittent Crackles in Windows 10

Hello Folks,

I've been using Reaper fore some time now mainly without problems.

In December I asked my son to build a desktop for me.

It's an Intel I5 3.4Ghz with 8Ghb Ram. Originally it was on on windows 7 and ran fine except for constantly nagging that I needed Windows 10 for some of the hardware. The Windows 10 upgrade eventually worked but since then Reaper suffers from intermittent crackles on playback and editing. So far it has always been cured by saving the project, closing the project, shutting down Reaper, disconnecting the interface ( a Zoom R16) and then restarting. Audacity doesn't seem to suffer from the same problem. can anybody suggest a solution?
