Timeline selection

First up sorry, I know this is a dumb question, but I can't figure it out. I've watched a lot of the videos and been through many settings.

I can no longer do a timeline section. I've reset all modifiers and even done a re-instal. I can't left click and drag to make a selection in the timeline. What am I doing wrong? How should I normally be able to do this?

Sounds like time selection locking is enabled. Check in the Options menu under Locking. The default shortcut for toggling locking is L.
