Default Tascam 16x08 vs Presonus Audio Box 1818

My Tascam 16x08 seems to have quit, at least the usb light does not come on so no connection. I've become very used to sending 8 channels to analog board so am considering getting a Presonus Audio Box 1818vls, which also has 8 analog out. Just wondering is anyone has had experience with this unit with Reaper. I am sure it would be fine just curious before I buy, found one used for $350 CAN

You've tried a new USB cable, right?

Just so you know...

PreSonus dropped support for the VSL feature. On both Mac and Windows.

My 44VSL is in the closet. The Tascam has been my workhorse for 2 years. Really happy with it.

If the cable isn't the issue, perhaps all is not lost. The US-16x08 defaults to an 8-input mic preamp when there is no USB connection.

Mic Input 1 => Line Output 1
Mic Input 2 => Line Output 2
Mic Input 3 => Line Output 3
Mic Input 4 => Line Output 4
Mic Input 5 => Line Output 5
Mic Input 6 => Line Output 6
Mic Input 7 => Line Output 7
Mic Input 8 => Line Output 8

Obvious question being, have you updated to the latest set of drivers and firmware?

Default I use 1818VSL

I am using the Audiobox 1818VSL with Reaper and haven't found any problems yet. In fact it is working rather well with very low latency and excellent output. I recommend using the Presonus audio drivers rather than AISO4ALL drivers. I also recommend using a send channel for your more CPU intensive effects. It would be nice if cockos provided a recording template to use with the 1818.
