New teaser:
I had this problem with the mesh. I saved it as a mcp_sendlist_bg (background) but ofcourse Reaper strechtes that stuff. So I was about to say farewell to it, then it hit me: Reaper has this annoying habit of informing you when a pluginslot (or send) is empty. Everytime you mouse over it, you see wouldbe-plugs coming up and the pointer tells you that you could park a plug at that slot. No shit.
Dunno if this great information serves a higher purpose, but I gave it a proper use: I scaled a little piece of the mesh (so it would align) and pasted it on those nerdy slotpopups. And now the mesh always sits tight. No more strechting:

The rotaries you see will be gone by an hour or two, nice try, but too flat compared to the faders. I followed WT's advice in making them four times bigger then they would show in the mixer (80/80) and they do a terrific job rotating. Alas they don't look that convincing, but it was a good study.
What's also missing are the actual _bg's in the mixer, they will come soon, but had to move to show me how the mesh behaves.
Oh, and that white stuff on the fader'area is a hack of an overlay, the faderbackground and the vu-bar (not finished, it will close), it hides the mcp_bg just enough to allow me to do some tricks with the background (and get rid of that 'not solo'd all over the mixer). The background of the fx_parameters also shows up in the tcp, dunno if I want it there, so the mcp_bg has to take care of the fx_parm_bg too in the mixer. Studying on it. Solving puzzles, yeah!
Later!

Readability's not so good in the sends yet. It's getting busier overall.
Looking forward to it. You do have a nice font going there. Is that free ?

The font is free, I will include it after I edited it, they thought a minus-symbol wouldn't be of use to anyone. The sends will change towards the theme. I made them first without knowing where the theme was heading. The mixer fxparameters will also become more relaxed.

It's a great, original theme. It's bit too dirty, or cluttered, for my tastes though, but it's getting better each time I look at it. Here's some suggestions:
I like the green knobs in this view:
http://img97.**************/img97/9356/parasubtle.jpg
I use them and replace the ones here:
http://img132.**************/img132/5594/meshstrech.jpg
Also, I'd try something different with the meter border, like try to get rid of the raised edge altogether.
Attached is an example of these slight tweaks...

Thanks! Yes, the red ones will be gone, was just a test. Great tip on the vuborders, you're right there. Again, everything is progressing, nothing is finished. I'm showing some sort of 'how to', cos this one...
a Rather large pic now: (sorry bout the red knobs)

Transparent overlayhacks. They are our friends.
Focus on the item and look slightly below. The shadow gives a focus on the arranger, reducing clutter. Again, THIS IS A TEST! Nothing final here. still no proper backgrounds, red knobs have to be replaced etc. The mesh is gone, will be moved to the mastersection (to emphasize how tough a master is). Sends, vst's, they will change into the ledreadout of the fxparameter, the knob also. I'm going for uniformity in the mixer. As of now.
But this overlayhackthing... Man, you can do millions of stuff with it... And -most important- an overlay doesn't stretch.

New VU
Ok, question for you folks. Do you like this VU (more than the other one)?
Trying to calm things down on the mcp...
(Oh, overlayhack for solo)

Color is no prob, since these are the VUbars of Reaper. Just gave them a transparant overlay (with some blending) to make them smaller and give them a bit of depth. Colors can be changed to anything in Reaper's prefs.

Oh I see. I didn't know I could control the VU colour. Well, I kind of like the dull look of the older ones still. Smaller is good though. JMO...
The dull look works with the dirty keys and faders.

Ofcourse. And four other ones. I'll also make a smaller version of the old ones. When I made the faderarea smaller the VUbar seemed so bulky (the fader has been scaled by -8%). I like it better this way, gives room for everything on one screen. Tracks & automation, mcp with some fxparameters, even a nice shadow under the transportbar.

I didn't look at it that way... I tried to make the whole top the same color as the bumper, that was the original idea. When the overlayhack was done I didn't like it, so I took off the bumper. Will be included -writing order down, one faderBG with extra bumper- as an option, or maybe it will come back, the area next to it blended nice with the white VUinfo.
I wish I could switch that off in the prefs.. All those db's jumping up & down.. As if you want to focus on that all the time..

Instant default!
How much longer are you going to torture us?
PS: I prefer the new vu meters

I like the old ones better there's something almost organic about it the way the blood red bubbles up from the ground. I could imagine thriller being mixed on this with a zombie behind the controls............
This looks awesome apart from the gray boxes at the top of the mixer...
And I would have loved to have the pans at the top and the names at the bottom..

but does that muck up the theme? it seems to do so on many that use overlays for the mutes and solos.
I have always been curious why are the pans at the bottom by default? Does it not make the track names less accessible? Especially with the vol/pan labels as bright?
I like the original style meters too.

(properly placed) Mute and solos muck up the theme because they will also overlay the mastersection, who has a different size. I did a hack for the solosection (using only a transparant blend from dark (top) to light), and made it to fit the width of the mastersection. The channelsection simply crops it off were it falls over its borders. For a transparent shadow that's no problem.
When you wanna hack a little panel like I did for the name, tracknumber, solo & mute, you need _exact_ dimensions. So use the _phasebutton_ to create an channeloverlay, that's not to find on the master. The same, if you wanna give the master an unique panel, use the stereobutton found there.

I dunno... But I left them there, gave me the opportunity to make a nice background for the db's of the fader & panner in the mcp background, firmly set in its place with some pink. The namebackground -which moves to that place if you swap the panner- is now on top and can have its own background, the db-readout doesn't have one.
And while editing, I prefer to see the name of the track close under the FXparameters, so all in all I like the position of the panner down below. Don't tweak it that much anyway.

They'll be included, along with a smaller version. If you look at the whole mcp the glare on the vu's tend to add to the clutter. In my experience.
