Default VSTs and instrruments

Very newbie and embarrassing, but I have failed to get more than 3 instruments in my (licenced) Reaper, tried Dll moves and re-installing, to no avail.
I bet it is more simple than it appears.
I just wanted a decent piano sound, and have CV piano working outside of reaper, but only get Cockos plugins wherever I look.

Oh, you just tell Reaper where the instruments are. It will scan that directory for the instruments.

Options->Preferences… dialog, go to "Plug-ins" in the left pane, select "VST" and fill in the top field with the directory *or directories* where you've got the instruments.

Welcome to the Reaper Forums!

In case you haven't already found them, make sure to check out the User Guide (https://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php) and Videos section (https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php) in general. Lots of useful information there.

Since you mentioned (Tascam) CV Piano and .dll plugins, I am assuming you're using Windows, right?
In this case, these videos should be helpful:
