Great! As far as I can tell, copy/pasting items together with their (non-AI) automation now works well, even when multiple items are pasted into positions with pre-existing (non-AI) automation.
(On a related note, although not directly related to this pre-release, please note that all these copy/paste/duplicate item actions ignore the setting " Option: Trim content behind automation items when editing or writing automation": When copy/pasting items together with their AIs into positions with pre-existing AIs, the AIs are stacked instead of trimmed.
In contrast, when using Ctrl+leftdrag to do the exact same copying action, the setting is complied with.)

Looks good.
The copy/paste complications mentioned in the pre9 thread are fixed.
What I find interesting is the difference between what the CUT and the COPY commands actually aquire when copying selected areas of selected items. The Copy command seems to place edge points from the time selection edges in to the buffer. The Cut command does not.
The big new addition for me is copying the envelopes between the items as well. This is a Big Fucking Deal right there.
All it now takes to copy sections, complete with automation, without having to use regions, is to enclose them with items. Empty items work too. -EDIT- A starting item is all that's necessary. Interesting.
To take it a step further would be to have a Copy All That Shit command, so dummy items are not necessary as anchor points. Or place an empty item along that artful envelope magic you might have created. Both work, if there are no other items in the way.
This is definitely a step in the right direction. Thank you. I can now do stuff more easily that was much harder or impossible to do before.

Mmmm, i wish that setting would be honoured.
I find it very untuitive that it isn't.
Meaning, for example, when you copy paste normal item(s) to a position where already item(s) is/are, then the paste wil also not be "stacked": the pre-existing item(s) will be replaced.
So why different behaviour for AI's then ?
I think (if i may), the very most of us just want copy-paste of AI to pre-existing ones not to be stacked, but just being replaced.

+1 stacked is cool as an option.
I imagine there are funnier things to do then finalize AIs tho

"When copy/pasting items together with their AIs into positions with pre-existing AIs, the AIs are stacked instead of trimmed."
Is only in Preferences, not in the Options Menu.
Would be logical imho to have it in Options Menu also.

It would be great if the enevelope copy/paste improvements worked when copying via mouse drag as well. Right now the behavior is only improved when copying via action
