Default Select Part of Track

I am new to Reaper program. I want to remove part of a track. I have found opening the track in Named Notes mode is easiest for what I want to. I have been trying to select a range of the track but cannot figure out how to select a range (about 3 seconds of the track). I have looked through the manual but was not able to search and find how to select a range (or did not know the correct terminology to look for). I have tried dragging the mouse, double-clicking, and other mouse options, nothing has worked for me so far. How can I select a part of a track and then delete it?

Thank you - Eric Oleson

Hi Eric,

since you mentioned 'Named Notes mode', I'm assuming you're referring to MIDI Items, right?

By default, it's possible to marquee select a range of MIDI notes via right-click & drag : https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#GIBt8AjdwEM
Another option is using a Time Selection (which basically works the same way in the MIDI Editor) https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#RiWYDYCTtmg

In addition, these videos should also be helpful, in general:
There are more available here: https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php

Default Select Part of Track (Continuted)

Thank you for the reply. I found the video area moments after I posted the thread, thanks for that information. I now see how to select items. However once items are selected and I delete them, there is a gap in the track that I do not want. In the file attachment I show what I am trying to do. I made a mistake while recording, stopped, and then re-started again. In the file I deleted the mistake notes between points 14.3 and 15.2. Now the notes are gone but I want to get rid of the gap from 14.3 to 15.2. I have looked through some of the editing videos and can't find a solution. If there is help available please point me towards it and I will read/watch to get a solution. I will keep looking through documentation.

Thank you again - Eric Oleson

One way of doing it:

- go to the track
- make a time selection (drag with your left mouse)
- right click in the time selection and choose 'Split items at time selection' (SHIFT S does the same)
- delete the part that you want to get rid of
- drag the right part towards the left part until they click together
- select both parts, then right click and choose 'Glue items'
- press ESC to remove the time selection

Another variation of the way xpoes mentioned above looks like this:

1) Enable Ripple Editing: https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#NsSb1otziI0
2) Make a time selection
3) Then use Edit > Cut Items/tracks/envelope points within time selection if any ('Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + X' by default) to cut the item area inside the time selection **
4) Select both parts and 'Glue items'

** with Ripple Editing enabled it should automatically move the items on the right side over to fill the gap
