pretty much everything is done, I would just like opinions and feedback on graphical problems or recommendations for visual improvements

Default looks good

I really thought I'd never need another theme after reapercussion and vixie plain, and swore not to waste my time squinting at new ones. However as I loved brunettemodels 'cool edit' theme, and this looks even better, I shall give it a whirl. And a mix. Don't expect real benchmark tests, but I've downloaded and will post later.

I just fixed a couple graphical problems, fat faders in the mcp, a vu glitch, reposted the links in the first post.

Looking good! I really like it. Five remarks:
- AA3 has distinctly separated track lanes, which I think is better.
- the picto's in the upperleft corner are too colorful. AA3 doesn't have any of these picto's anymore (at least I havn't found them). In AA2 there a few but they remain more grey.
- the font of the time line is now Times New Roman. I think it should be Verdana like the others.
- your button for looped play does not become green
- the pause button is ligther grey than the others, and becomes darker when active. Oh, now I see, that's the same as in AA3. But then you should grey out the stop button as well. And: when active the pause button lights op yellow.

are you referring to the highlighting and the bars above/below each track that extend out to the righthand editing panel in AA?

I really wish I could implement this, but it is not possible to do with Reapers visual limitations, AFAIK.

In AA3 most of these pics can be found under View > Shortcut Bar > Show

A few of them don't exist in Audition, like the metronome, ripple editing, etc.

Good point, I'll change it at the next update.

heh, the buttons were the only thing I didn't change from Tweeksound's theme in the other thread, these will be fixed on the next update. Thanks!

You're right. It could be simulated (which Cybolic's Zinc does) with an alternation of the background colors of the lanes. It DOES make the screen better IMHO.

Got them, thanks. As you (and I now, too) can see is that they only get some color on their cheeks when you hover over them.

Another one: the selection area could be (much) more transparant. It's too white for my taste.

You do seem to be unable to decide about the fx (in)active button? In the mixer the active fx are represented by a simple green block whereas in the track I see the (Audition) on/off button. But there I only see it when it's active. I believe in AA when it is inactive that button is grey. Personally I think the simple green block is easier (from a usability point of view).

Step One,

I really like what you have done, and appreciate that it is not an exact clone. The splash is great!!! As for some comments, a few things I noticed are:
1. The play sync, still uses the Vixie Button
2. Since you skinned the knobs (great addition BTW), when you have the sends panned left or right there is a small black thing that moves left or right when adjusting the pan. This same thing happened in either the Trouble Maker or Cornish Cream theme, but WT's was 1/2 the knob that moved, so I guess you made an improvement. There tough, skinning the knobs, I had a rough time myself with the ones on Easy On The Eyes.
3. Pause should look the same as the rest and color the same as play when on (IMO that is).
4. The toolbar icons/buttons should have outlines like they do when pressed, but I think it is great that they're b/w when off and colored when on...NICE!
5. Lastly, the background of the MCP fader is very Audition 3, but this is not consistent with what you have behind the TCP fader. I figured this is for either variety or just a difference, but I wanted to point this out. Maybe a different fader type here?

Love It, and it gives me all the aesthetics of Audition and a bit of Cool Edit with REAPER's Power. Also, I love the loop and item record mode buttons...NICE!

yes, theres some problems, especially highlighting a selected track, I'll hopefully fix this in the next update.

The mixer fx buttons are more limited in size than the tcp buttons, so I wouldn't be able to put the AA on/off buttons there.

I'll put the borders around the buttons at all times, see if it looks better.

With the background of the MCP fader, I might just switch it back to the standard black line like the TCP fader, it's not how AA is, but it looked cleaner to me.

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them

The FX button is not necessarily missing, it just doesn't appear when there is no FX on the track. There is the standard gray FX button when the track FX is disabled.

I'll make the mcp faders larger, fix the pause button, and see about an alternative track text background.

My biggest gripe currently is with the MCP panels. I like the uniform black border around them, but preserving these when having the orange highlight, the text in the fx/send panels draw over the border. I guess I'll have to remove the black border when highlighted

Hmm
interestingly I disagree with all of Labyrinth's remarks except the font of the time indicator. That is still Times. But especially the suggestion of green for the pause button is srange. The yellow is much better.

I think you've done a wonderful job!

Yeah, it should be Verdana, it looks better and more uniform. I've switched it many times, but forget to save it with the theme.

yeah, I'll probably have an updated version tomorrow, change a bunch of little stuff, fixed fonts, pause button, toolbar abnormalities, and clean up the mcp fx/send lists as much as I can.

Uploaded 1.0:

small toolbar fixes
font is now verdana
tweaks in the mcp fxlist / sendlist
pause button fixed

Comments:

Mcp textbox border cannot be centered correctly while properly fitting the text. Also, text goes over the border of sends.

I chose to have the graphical aspect look correct, so I'm not going to handicap the core graphical elements in attempt to fix what I feel is Reaper's shortcomings in text alignment.

StepOne,

You've done an excellent job, but some comments, if I may (for future improvements).
1. I feel the MCP faders are way too small (that may be only me)
2. It is strange that the fx indicator is green when on, but the same for off and bypassed (I changed it to be very dark green when bypassed)

Otherwise....GREAT JOB!!!!

This theme looks great on my laptop´s small screen, but on my main desktop this theme doesn´t look as sweet. The mixer faders are so small (I have 19" LCD monitor). BTW 19" ain´t that big these days. Overall this theme is excellent, but I will have to mod this thang like hell to make it work...or perhaps I will just stick with Stumn theme. Mixer faders are perfect on that one! Clear & easy on the eyes.

Ahh anyway great work!

I like it! very soothing to work with.

the toolbar has to be clearer as to if it is on- or offstate, though.

Missing the mono and stereo track buttons (they're only visible on the track routing window), therefore is using the defaults. Copying and renaming the mcp ones to be track instead fixes this. Just thought I would bring it to your attention.

Hi StepOne,

This is shaping up beautifully!

(I like the active/in-active approach on the new screenshot BTW)

One question - the track Title description in the MCP looks less than ideal - from the screenshot it appears as if 'overlong' descriptions 'break out' of their name field, is this correct?

It's a really nice, clear, clean, and simple-looking (i.e. not confusing) design - well done StepOne!

Deric.

Yeah, the border is already as wide as I can make it without being off-center. Currently, the only other option that would look clean is to remove the border, but it's too integral to the theme to remove, IMO.
