The Ear of Dr Les - A Thank Les Task EARLY DEMO
Proposed third track from the next Les Baxter remix/tribute album, Les is More.
Just a bunch of samples slapped together, a little eq and time stretching, nothing more yet.

So lounge I just sprouted a smoking cap. I hate hot places, but those old tropical movie jams are fire.

For what its worth, there is a new version up, same link.
I'm out of common phrases with the word 'less' in tho, so a title so far is escaping me.
EDIT: Now added some vocal samples, a 'proper' bassline, a little bfd.

Feels like the initial mix sounded snappier. Still retains the vibe of decades overdue vacation tho.
(In other news, Orbs new album is brilliant, has all the required dub and wacky samples about cheese. And I thought they irreversibly became a dance act long time ago)

I never (rarely) listen back to the old mixes, but funny you should mention that, as I heard the original mix by accident today.
The drums were a lot spikier! A lot more transients kicking thru, is that what you meant?
I think you're right that I might have smoothed things out too much, but then again, it is lounge, and lounges are smooth and comfortable
I think I shall try and get some of those transients back again, thanks!
(As in, THE Orb, little fluffy clouds Orb? I was going to try their new album recently and didnt, but I will now Thanks x 2!)

Yep like percussion elements were pokin out more, I don't know. And it's the same Orb indeed - album starts with dancey tracks but it soon gets more orby in the way I like(yay for Radio Moscow samples).

Yep, re: drums, we understand each other. Nice suggestion, I dont think I would have noticed properly without you bringing it up and I agree. Thanks!
Orb, I'm on it, nice one

thanks!
im hoping to do the drums a bit more justice, with a bit more bfd to highlight sections, spread the stereo of the wacky sound towards the end and then walk away from it

I like it, but the vocal is a little listless. Maybe add a Leslie effect. On the other hand sometimes less is more.

I think you are correct, and made a good choice of effect as a solution too.
I just checked an analysis of the frequency ranges the vocals samples are using and it dips significantly around where it matters for a 'lead' instrument too. Its a vhs rip the speaking is from I think, and a bad one at that, from mics on the video camera, dodgy shit!
Leslie as a send I think, nice one

My suggestion was really meant as a tongue in cheek continuation of the earlier word play with the name Les. Should have known that I am not smart enough to get away with an attempt at humor without including an emoji. The vocal is fine, and this is another clever little piece of fun music in the series that you have posted. But maybe a little Leslie here and there would be a good idea after all.

LOL
Bastard
I missed that completely, however, I think I have just made the vocal more interesting

It oddly smoothly transitions into CheapShow podcast playing afterwards, for a sec I thought it's a sampled outro

God, I love CheapShow
I dont really like how Soundcloud plays reposts of other peoples work after someone clicks on a track of mine. It makes me wanna go and delete all the reposts tbh. I wish it had an option to turn that playing sequence off.
EDIT: All reposts gone

Annoying that the video is all fully finished but the track still languishes
