Default dimming audio from browser/music player while using Reaper

Hey guys! Does anyone know of a (hopefully free or cheap!) utility for OSX that would dim or duck the audio from any software besides your DAW whenever playback is occurring? Might save a few steps if I were listening to music or a podcast while doing hours of editing which is primarily visual, but needed to audition takes/fades every once in a while

I'm not a Mac guy. But there are a couple options I can think of; though neither one is very elegant.
One way is to get a outboard (hardware) stereo compressor. Run the browser/music player audio through it. Set attack=0, threshold to -40 or so, release to 5 or 10 seconds, and ratio to at 10 or 20.
Feed a copy of your Reaper output to the sidechain input.

The other way is to do exactly the same thing f4om within Reaper, using a plugin. This would require routing your browser/music player audio into a spare track in Reaper. Like I said, not an elegant solution...
