Default reaper for live performance clicks/pops

MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz
SSD drive
Memory: 16 GB
Processors: 1 Cores: 4

Reaper version 577.64

I am using reaper to run several instance of a looping plugin. i am getting clicks and pops.
Cpu usage is low. i am running the session from an SSD. i have tried on a HD and am havinf the same problems.

I have increased the buffer size.
thread priority is time critical and behaviour is aggressive

track CPU usage is less than 1%

Is this the correct way of optimising for what im doing ??
any idea what the problem is or how i might solve it

Thank you

Check MacOS's own activity monitor, as there could be other processes on the system which is using CPU time.

And set your buffer to 512 with Request from interface selected, and put those other aggressive settings back to normal as it's overkill - t could be that you have the buffer on a strange setting or those more aggressive settings could making the issue worse, 512 should be fine for live, the actual latency is reported at the top of the Reaper bar for reference.

Which plugin are you using, and is it au or vst version?

Saw that. Not sure what else to offer yet.
I mean, there the part where this is live performance so a low block size is going to be required to hit the required low latency. So upping the block size is not a workaround option in this scenario. Investigate the plugins of course. And try controlling the block size from outside Reaper if that is an option and you have a proprietary control panel app with your interface.

What sample rate is this system being run at? Controlling that from Reaper too? (Always try control of both the sample rate and the block size from Reaper first. Disable it from Reaper and try a 3rd party as a 2nd choice if something doesn't play nice.) Tick those boxes next to the controls to enable them in Reaper, untick to disable.

I just got a new (used) laptop and I think it's also time for an OSX shootout. I've been happily working away in 10.6.8 this whole time just none the wiser of what appears to be cracks in newer OSX. Or maybe that's flat out wrong? Guess I'll find out. This late 2011 machine still supports 10.6.8 so I'll be keeping that install around.

Allow live FX multiprocessing is unticked ill try that now

i have buffer size set to 1024 which isn't ideal running at 24/48K

There are no options to control from 3rd party

I Have requests unticked in device settings as this seems to work better

allow project to override device sample rate is ticked
