Default can editable midi items show an audio waveform underneath

Hi, I am sure I did this once and have forgotten how to. I want to align individual midi notes to an audio waveform (might be any waveform) by seeing the waveform as the background to the midi editor. Is this possible or have I misremembered?

I think I might have found a solution but it seems more like a bug that can be exploited. If I overlay a midi item onto a waveform using the inline editor and then set the midi item settings to "show spectrogram" then the inline editor background becomes transparent so that I can see the waveform with midi notes over the top. This work really well, but there is no spectrogram involved (how could a midi item even have a spectrogram?) which makes this seem like a bug/unintended.

Thanks, I will check out those other solutions. The inline editor solution works pretty well but is probably a bug, so might not persist into the future
