Default Removal of item_volknob possible?

I think this is an element that doesn't need to be themed to exist in the theme.
At least the rtconfig for Imperial doesn't contain a reference to it.

My question is is it possible to add a line to the rtconfig that removes it and any mouse interaction with the space occupied by it in a theme? What is the magic code?

The reason is that often it gets in the way of dragging the fade handle for me

Many thanks

To get rid of the knob go to preferences/appearance/media. Down there is the option to choose knob or handle.

To get rid of the entire upper strip isn't a good idea because its meant to separate the tracks and to have a place to create a time selection when zoomed in.

Hope I got it right.

Bye

Hi Eli

Thanks for replying.
The volume handle option gets in my way too. And I generally make time selections straight over items with a mouse modifier.

I was after a way of just removing the item volume knob using the rtconfig and not having handles either as the functionality does not depend on having them there.

Does this way exist I wonder..

I'm pretty sure there is no way to remove it in the theme. You can change the look of it, but it will still be there. They would need to add this feature in the preferences. I'm not sure they will because you would have no way to change item volume without adding extra hotkeys/mouse modifiers so it could leave someone new to reaper pretty confused.

The mouse modifiers for changing item volume are already there. I use them all the time. Without touching my knobs

One not-perfect solution would be to change the setting "Hide buttons when take lane height is less than" to 1000 pixels. You would not get any volume knobs, but unfortunately you would also lose the other media item buttons

You can already do this now by unchecking "Draw labels above the item, rather than within the item." If you are using right-click-drag for your time/item selections, the empty space is not needed.
