Default MIDI Controller driver for REAPER (new approach)

Hi everyone,

I found a way to integrate MIDI controllers with REAPER that is cross-platform, supports feedback, its easy to develop and debug and most importantly, doesn't require any third-party software or other prerequisites.

It's based on REAPER's web server support. Basically, I replaced the GUI with MIDI interface.

You can read more about at the GitHub repo: https://github.com/venelinpetrov/rea...surface-driver

I also put together a short video if you prefer to see it in action first: https://youtu.be/5M-RpgTE8zw

Happy hacking

I'm surprised i'm the first reply here - this is very interesting and for me a valuable resource in learning/progressing in the whole midi-hardware integration world in Reaper. I'll definitely be digging into this more over the weekend. Thanks for sharing your new discovery! You explained everything extremely well both on github readme and your example video

If custom software (rather than a browser) is to be attached to reaper via TCP/IP, IMHO OSC should be a better choice.

Here you can access either the communication provided by Reaper itself (and configurable by the *OSC* file that can be edited), or you can use Beyond Python/Reaper.

Nice idea! It adds Java script to the list of program languages which can be used to connect MIDI controller to REAPER
