Default 'View' menu too long

The 'View' menu barely fits in a typical 736pixel laptop screen. It needs some organization. Shouldn't be difficult to organize...

e.g. Put the midi keyboard, scale finder etc in a 'Utilities' sub-menu

Organize other entries accordingly.

A single long list is not easy to read either.

Yes, but default menus could benefit from better organizing too imo.

Yes. Coach, I can customize my own menus I know. But the less we have to do to 'fix' basic functionality, the better. I often do separate portable installs for testing, and I get to re-experience all the default settings. Plus, other/new users may be affected by this also. So it's good pointing stuff out to the devs.

been seriously considering seeing if I can move the "Default Menu Options" option in reamenus to the top of the parent menu, since I seem to be using stuff that is in there far more than what appears in the "regular" reamenus top menu.

Maybe I should just break the habits of a lifetime and learn a few keyboard shortcuts.

Would it help if separate context menus were available from more places do we think? I think there's a few menus that still can't be customised as well? I'd also like to be able to invoke menus from toolbar buttons.

It seems to be a trend with a lot of software to present the user with a shopping list a mile long in every menu drop-down.
Now I am an old fart and I find my eyes glazing over once I look through more than eight or ten options, especially when each one has a keyboard shortcut that I can either never remember or can never get to do what I want stuck on the side of it.
And don't even get me started on sub and subsub and subsubsub menus....

It almost seems like laziness to just dump everything in a menu rather than laying the app out so stuff is a little more accessible AND intuitive.

Rant over - I'll just shut up....

Can I buy you one ...? Now in my 30 odd years of software development I did spawn just a few phrases. <hic> Here's one. Count the clicks ... Who cares?? Have you seen a 20 year old just out of uni with a degree in computer science drive a mouse? It puts a lot of very fast machines to shame. So then the retort becomes .. time the clicks!! Bless them. They just don't understand yet.

Lets try with the keyboard shall we?.

A midi track with kick and snare. Lets put the kick on a new track by itself.

Dbl click the track to open the editor. Right click the kick key on the piano to select the kick notes. Ctrl X to cut the kick.
Lets close the midi editor window. alt - space
Whoops. mmm. Alt F X
Whoops. mm...
Alt F C <yay> ??? anyway the midi editor is now closed.

In windows its
<alt> <space> <close> or <alt><f><x>

Take your pick but just do it like the other guys. I'm tired of having to learn new stuff that doesn't improve on the old stuff just for change sake.
Try using windows sometime. You'll see how it's done.

Double click in track empty space to insert a new track.
Click in arranger on our new track at point to paste our kick.
Ctrl V pastes the kick ... or does it??
That would be just groovy. If it worked.

Problem with Reaper is it's not intuitive, it's not consistent, it's visual indicators are poor and mostly non existent.

Rant over ...
