Default Find transients when editing bass gtr in stretch etc

I saw a tutorial on pooter about bass edits:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjanI08-7QY

It tells how to get the bass line to reveal its transients so as to make edits in stretch, or manual, or Q, easier. When I try this (duplicating the track, grouping, and applying the hi end pass to the track), Reaper splits the second track into two and when the fx is applied, doesn't change the look of the transients.

Am I doing something wrong, or has Reaper changed this since the tutorial was made? Or is there a better way?

BTW bass player isn't available to retrack, and the transients as is are in places (where more notes per beat played) hard to spot.

I think he's got "show takes in lanes" turned off, so that when he applies fx as new take on that guide track, you only get to see the new one. Or something...
