Default SONG: Obfuscation

Hi,

I've got a new song out. It's called "Obfuscation" - you can check it
out here:
https://www.soundclick.co...er.cfm?songID=13780140

It features the usual suspects:

all done in Reaper

Superior Drums
MODO Bass
and
Blue3 Hammond
LittleOne synth

and the real Strat and Tele ;-)

It's in 6/8 with a little tomfoolery going on...

All comments/suggestions welcome! ;-)

Don't forget - CDs (including my newest one "Pull the Other One")
are also available at https://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/JohnBraner
and all the normal streaming services.

Hi John, this song reminds me being a little girl, staring at the oven window while my daddy was smoking and listening to this kind of music. Back then i couldn't follow the song structure or melody it was just a mood to start dreaming and making soliloquies.

The drum arrangement is outstanding. Really, really good. I think the sound of the kit only could be more wet with room or reverb. Its a bit to close. And that's the catchword for the solo, melody guitars. They also are to close and to dry in my opinion. I guess the whole mix lacks because of that while the arrangement and musical realization is great. Such 70ies guitars like dirty reverb plates or springs.

Finally the master sounds well mixed and balanced. Could be a bit more bass and warmth. Besides that: great!

Hi Eliseat,

Thanks a lot for listening and for the comments.
The drum parts are based on grooves from Toontrack - but I edit them a lot.

I really don't like to use too much reverb - I like things "drier"

I did struggle with the bottom end a little.
Turn something up - too much
Turn something down - too little.

In the end I settled here - because it has to stop sometime

Sure that's a matter of taste. But for the guitar part i didn't mean reverb in a classic way rather than reverb like in amp comps like fender. So no spreading, only a little tail afterwards.

Anyway. Its a nice song. Keep going the good work.

Well, maybe I could add a little spring reverb, or a plate to the guitars...
Thanks again - for the feedback.

Pleasantly surprised- I really like the guitar parts that are counterpoint-esque. I just love it when guitar parts come together. Great melodies too, and I like that the hammond fits in perfectly.

Hi ij,

Thanks a lot for listening and for your comments.
I'm really getting comfortable with Reaper now.
Sometimes it's almost accidental when things "come together" - but you do have to have your ears open too
