after mup text file export in Reaper all finale and sibelius users will throw away their products out of the window. Hans Zimmer will watch them and smoke in one hand, drinking beer in the other.

This is very nice news indeed.
As of yesterday, there are now 2 contenders for my beloved SONAR.
When I see the response time here, I think I might be on to a winner
All the best.

Just to clear things up, after several similar requests here that don't really make sense to me: having ARA support DOES NOT mean that the Melodyne algorithms are implemented. It only means that Melodyne can be integrated in the DAW. You'll still have to buy Melodyne. So I'm not sure what "ReaTune gets Ara support" means.

ARA allows to use those plugins easier and faster. It's only useful for people who own those plugins. If you don't have them, the ARA support in Reaper does not bring anything new to you. (They could maybe throw in similar features for ReaTune now while they are working on that kind of stuff anyway though...)

And we have a great user contributed script that pretty much does what Vocalign does, so really, it's only about Melodyne.

Yay!

Now, if Celemony would do a Linux version of Melodyne, and SoundToys and FabFilter would do the same with their plugins, Heaven on earth would finally become reality!

the track mode vs item mode. This is interesting. It is something that also affects ReaTune, forcing to use ReaTune in items FX only. Because using it in track FX Chain causes to not update properly when you insert time or move items etc.
Hopefully this is going to be addressed with ARA implementation, and ReaTune can also benefit from this.

Oh well, this is almost perfect timing to get rid of one of the main concerns for SONAR refugees to go REAPER: "There's no ARA in REAPER"

I have a feeling this is not purely a coincidence, even though if all of this happened kind of one month ago, imagine:

- Cakewalk RIP announcement
- Melodyne essential 50% off due to Black Friday
- REAPER gets ARA

All at the same time!

- Mario

How does one use this to get it working as it should? Do i just open up a track, insert melodyne and it should just work? Or do i have to check some box i Reaper? Is it out yet?

It's a feature in development, so how it works isn't probably set yet. Not available for public testing yet.

Thank YOU! THANK YOU!!!

People seem to only be aware of the pitch editing ability of Melodyne.

Please note, that the tempo mapping abilities are primarily what I'm after. ARA is required for true back & forth communication between Melodyne and the DAW in this regard. ARA should allow importing & editing the tempo map from Melodyne and editing the timing of notes apart from the tempo map.

This takes free-time recordings to a new level, IMO. The tempo mapping I've done in REAPER with SWS has been difficult and time-consuming. The mapping is not too difficult, I suppose, but any "tempo-quantizing" of free-time audio is glitchy and weird sounding using Tempo markers. Drum slip editing is a huge PITA as well. Melodyne can do these with ease and have convincing results as well.

ReaTune should support ARA to benefit from it. It should be a bilateral support.

ARA has never been needed for ReaTune to be able to do that, though. It's just something they've decided not to implement so far.

That's the big advantage of ARA. It basically removes the need to transfer the audio, as this is done instantly as you edit (afaik).

What's really exciting about this is Cockos will find a few bugs along the way and fix them (by themselves or with Celemony's help). This alone will make things more pleasant.

sounds cool although any benefits to 'stock' Reaper and all it's users (e.g reatune) would be higher up the 'woo' scale for me

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you but I can use melodyne for tempo mapping free- time songs right now without ARA. Its been a while since I needed to do it but IIRC I just export a stereo render of my drum tracks into standalone Melo then export to tempo map which converts it to a midi file and import back into reaper.

It works SOOOO much faster and better than tempo markers.

Yes, and with ARA you can do that without exporting the render out etc... directly in your project.

I can't get a definitive answer in which version of melodyne you can do this. Essential? Assistant? Editor? Studio? (they have WAY too many versions) And GOD HELP YOU if you forget your password

Don't they just have 4?

This matrix suggests that all versions do mapping, but editor or studio are required for editing tempo.

You cant do tempo change editing in Essential or Assistant. Here is a comparison of the Melodyne versions (scroll down to the middle of the page):

After a few years away from Reaper, trying to make Sonar work for me, I moved back to Reaper earlier this year. Only thing missing, for me, was ARA. So, Yay!!!

Anyhow, for those who aren't tracking this, or aren't familiar with Melodyne -- there's a rather nice BF discount for upgrades running on multiple sites. Much cheaper than can be found on Celemony's site. Here's one:

https://plugindiscounts.com/brand/celemony/

If you must have tempo editing, the upgrade from Essential to Editor is only $133, for instance. No multi-tracking, of course, but very few people will actually need this, rather than just wanting it.

If you own fairly recent versions of other DAWS, you probably have an included license for Essential. Off the top of my head, that includes at least Sonar, Studio One, and Waveform. Probably all the others in Celemony's compatibility list. Otherwise, you may still be able to buy a license for Essential for $49 on one of the discount sites, though I think that's deal's over. For now.

And -- if you have a friend who owns multiple DAWS, they likely have multiple Essential licenses. To the best of my knowledge, these are not linked, and can be transferred. Not trying to sabotage Celemony's marketing, or trigger a tsunami of begging for free licenses, but there are marketplaces at KVR and Gearslutz, among others.

It means ReaTune acts like Melodyne. In the video, it is shown Melodyne automatically adjusts when changes are made to the source, the markers move, it is in sync. In ReaTune, when you do the same, you have to click 'update' and your markers need to be redone.

So the truth is now out. TWO programs use ARA.

In order to actually benefit from the "game changing" tempo related stuff my included single-track essentials version of Melodyne isnt going to work & I have to pay out double what reaper cost me to BUY in order to upgrade to a version of this that will do what everyone ahs been so excited about? Beginning to see why Justin & Schwa have been backward in coming forward.

Hopefully the code was not a major drain on our dev`s resources....

P.S. whoopee.....

@ivansc, I think most users will use it to tune and quantize bad recorded audio, not to create tempo. And hopefully more plugins can support ARA in the future. But I agree I hope it is not a major drain in resources for this.
