Default Metronome settings: help with Count-in and Pre-roll

Hi
I am still at a very early stage of use of Reaper.
I have one questions about the Metronome and pre-roll settings window:
what is the difference between 'Count in before recording' and 'Pre roll before recording'?

This is as I thought, but explained better than I could.

I never bother with either one. I usually start recording around measure 5, and for punch ins and things, I either just drop in early and adjust later or use time selection punch. Course, I never use the metronome at all anyway. My default project loads up with a track including an instance of EZD and about 15 minutes of a MIDI click track.

The lack of pre roll and post roll during looping makes the metronome of no use to me. I now have a click source dedicated track with my own loops outside the time selection to simulate pre roll and post roll.

So what is the difference between a click and the metronome?
I thought they were synonyms...

The metronome is built into Reaper. A click track is a track that you add to the project that has some kind of rythm on it. Like I said, my default is a MIDI item playing through EZD.

Thank you guys.
I had missed ashcat's link to Coachz's post a couple posts above. It explains everything.
