Default Is this a good PC build?

I have a friend that builds computers and asked him to help me come up with a setup for music production/recording. He gave me this but admits he has never done a build specifically for music (mainly gaming)
I told him I am on a $1000 budget.

What I'm going to use my PC for:
-Recording guitar direct through an audio interface
-Using a lot of sampling libraries (orchestra, drums, etc.) *will eventually live mic drums

Here's the list:
CPU +++AMD - Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler +++Cooler Master - MasterLiquid Lite 240 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard +++ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory +++G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage +++Toshiba - OCZ TR200 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage +++Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card +++XFX - Radeon RX 580 8GB GTS Black Core Edition Video Card
Case +++Cooler Master - MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply +++EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power

He said this list is just over $1K and he added the higher priced video card in case I wanted to do some gaming on it but said I could go cheaper. So is this a good setup for what I want to do and are there any ways to make it a little bit cheaper?
thanks!

ummm, yea... it's a great system. gaming pc's are generally great for production because they are built for performance. the gfx card can be sold however if you won't use it for gaming or video production tho.

If you're not going to be doing any gaming or video editing in any adobe suites then you don't need to worry so much about the graphics card. In UK that card is roughly £280.

I don't believe the Ryzen CPU has a built-in GPU though so that could have saved you cash straight off. It's worth considering an Intel based system in my opinion too though, as good as the Ryzen's are supposed to be, I always find the performance and reliability of Intel beneficial in production.

I would probably change your boot SSD - I've used Toshiba OCZ SSD in the past (Trion) and its performance wasn't very good. It wasn't a boot drive but used for plugins etc... it was a cheap deal I bought on a whim.

If I were you I'd maybe be looking at at least 512GB NVME SSD (If board supports) it as your boot drive and maybe another 512GB SSD for storing your samples, especially if you're loading huge instruments that are 40GB+.

Keep the 2TB for storage of course.
I would probably go for 32GB RAM though just for the overhead.

Going for a passive graphic card can be a great option if you don't need gaming performance, as it avoids fan noise...
