Default Subproject Rendering

Hi everyone!

I'm working on a short film and I've split each scene into its own subproject being run from a master. I've decided that while making the score, it would be easiest to create the music for each scene within that scene's subproject rather than in the master project. Everything sounds great within the subproject, but it doesn't seem to render properly to the master because if I listen to it there it's very different (even when I copy the subproject to its own root-level track and disable all effects processing on the master). Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

(This is the right forum for this kind of thing, right?)

Can't really provide much help based on 'it sounds very different'.

What is most glaringly different between hearing the subproject in the master project vs how it sounds in the master?

The most glaring difference is that it fades in when it isn't supposed to. But not quite like a proper fade, like a compressor is disengaging. More subtly, the low end seems to suffer volume-wise.
