Default I tried recording my own vocals

So life has been busy with work and such.

Neither do i have the time or money to buy or hire a vocalist.

So, just now i decided to mock up the courage to record something very short ( I got embarrassed shortly after) lol

So here it is. If you think it sounds like shit, ill stop immediately and leave it to the pros ha.

The lyrics are something i came up in 30 seconds, i know, pretty awful.

But do i have a douchey voice?

Your voice sounds great
Practice a lot and keep tinkering
Hmm, sounds a tad harsh/trebly to my old ears but that may not be a bad thing depending on a more full piece of music.
Go fer it...

Strange thing about the voice.
If you're a good guitarist, you (think) know you're good.
If you're a good vocalist, youre always think it's bad, except for total loosers and Rod Steward (saw a documentarya and all famous singers had bad self confidence about their voice except Rod).
This is a short recording, but what I can say is that your voice (timbre) is great, you're singing ability (hit the notes) is good, you're rythm is good (very important).
I'm also have bad self confidence about my singing and that makes you avoid sing out loud.
Since I replaced my car radio with a one with a USB and start to sing in the car to demos and stuff, my singing was improved a lot.

Definitely well sung! I would like to hear some more.

Maybe - as RobertP said - the mixing of your voice (or even of the whole track) was a bit towards high end (assume, this was intended for the first few bars) and after that the thing (+your voice) opens up a bit more.

But I could imagine, that the timbre of your voice has a little more to offer in lower frequency-ranges. That would make it more present in my opinion (of course depending on the song you do and judged only by those few bars, you gave us).

So keep on!

I hear no "D-baggery" at all. Your voice sits just fine in this style of music. No pitch issues, rhythm is good, no nasally overtones (my big problem).

Keep it up. I think when it comes to singing, we need to focus on what our voice does, and where it guides us, rather than trying to emulate a style that is beyond our capabilities.

You voice works very well in this style, whereas it wouldn't work in a metal song. Think of how Steven Wilson uses his voice, even in heavy songs. Still melodic and soft.

Your voice sounds very good, I think. Just the record sounds like a phone speaker, so it's a bit difficult to hear all the aspects of your voice.

It took decades to convince Robin Trower to sing his own songs. I think it actually revitalized him and his music.

Many years ago, I was in a 13-member madrigal (a cappella) group. My voice sucked compared to the other 12, but I was an accomplished pianist and they needed someone who could read sheet music and tune up the (typically) seven part harmony.

The way I got through it without embarrassing myself was to work really hard on my intervals. Once I could hit all of the important intervals with confidence, I could just sing.

Today, there are apps to help with interval training. One of the ones I use is Perfect Ear on Android. Here's a very useful video by Julian Bradley (jazz keyboardist).

Pitch, timbre, feel all good as has been said. You need to generate confidence in what is a pleasant and accurate voice. Just sing more at full volume whenever you get the chance and get used to hearing/feeling your own voice. Mik's suggestion re singing in the car is a good one. Sing, sing and sing some more. And while you're at it try harmonising with a lead vocal it's great practice and you have a high tenor range that will work well in BVs.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!!!

Sorry it took so long to respond. My job wont allow me to be on my phone at work and when i get home i just pass out lol.

I really appreciate all the goods here. I will definitely keep going

I think the hardest part is believing people when you say you have a good voice lol. Friends will tell you your voice sounds great and then they go home and scream into their pillow.

Hey, maybe i just discovered something good about the internet! People can be honest because all you see is an avatar.

Again, thanks guys. I will keep trying for sure

Now that you've been back and read all the positive comments, I can post this in fun. Reminds me of my high school band, The Prodigal Sons. LOL
