Good job man. Thanks so much. Of course this will always be a work in progress, but kudos for taking the initiative.

Thank you, very much!
I'm hoping you are right: That this will stay a "work in progress"!

Fingers crossed (yes, I know it's harder to use a mouse that way)

I also want to add my thanks, to K8ch and helpers
I found so many great plugins from that guide
Cheers for your excellent work!

---
As for any updates to the guide,
I love the zenoMOD VU Meter, which wasn't included
It uses bugger all CPU,
and embeds into the TCP and MCP like a champ
Lots of different settings for themes and sensitivity etc

---

---

Old mate Kenny even did a great video about setting it up

Relevant comments from that video:
Quote:
smoothness of VU meter motion in embedded MCP is affected by Reaper Preferences -> Appearance -> Track Control Panel -> Meter update frequency (Hz),
I highly recommend typing value of your display/monitor (so for ex. 60 for 60Hz display, 100 for 100Hz display etc..)

Went to the Reaper>Options>Preferences>Appearance>Track Control Panels>Meter Update Frequency (Hz) and discovered it defaults to 30 Hz. I changed the setting to 60 Hz and noticed an improvement albeit not a huge difference. Then I experimented and changed the refresh rates to various values such as: 5Hz, 1Hz, 20Hz, 30Hz, 4OHz, 5OHz and 60Hz. Definitely a huge difference between 5 Hz and 60Hz.

Great job, Keith K8ch! Thank you again.

I haven't had a minute to check out your guide. Eager to take a look, but these are frantic days. In the meantime, a practical suggestion: you could edit your first post in this thread, so the links can be found easily by any passer by.

Hi Juan...
Thanks for the kind words...and to good suggestion.

I'd actually started a separate topic called ""JSFX Guide is ready"...or something like that...but I liked your idea so I "updated" my very first post and I even changed the "title", just to make sure people would notice the "guide" was ready.

Anyway...thanks again for the nice words and the great suggestion!

Peace,
Keith

As for any updates to the guide. ...

Glad to hear you like the "guide" and I appreciate your making tis suggestion for an "update".

Before making it available, I'd posted a request asking people for their recommendations...and chances are, many people hadn't read the post.
My bad. I didn't exactly plaster it all over the place.

Anyway, I would've -loved- to get the kind of suggestion like you'd just made. The personal tips, the link to Kenny G's video... Perfect.

As for an update... I'm not planning one, any time soon.
2 weeks ago I was I was just burnt out, really.
But truth be told...maybe I'll gather info for an update in the future.
I won't rule it out.

Meanwhile, because other people might have the energy to "take the ball and run with it", I put a link at the end of the thing, for anyone who wanted to download the raw/MSWord file, to edit/update, if they wanted.

So...that's the story.

I'm trying to get this in Reaper Stash, but the file size is too large.
So, I've sent emails to "cfillion" of ReaPack, hoping to get it included, somehow...but I haven't heard back.
I sent a link right away, to Jon Tidey of ReaperBlog, in the hope that he would talk about it on his podcast. So, that may help, too.

If you have any ideas about telling people about this guide, please share them!

PEace,
K

That was quick :-) Great

In the absence of ReaPack, I have two more suggestions for distribution/publishing.

1. Embed the document version number in the filename or at least in the PDF metadata, so we know our version is stale and there's a newer one.

2. Not sure it's possible or easy: Provide a link in the first post of this thread (as you just did)

https://www.keithhaydon.com/Reaper/JSFX.pdf

so that it actually points to the newest version

https://www.keithhaydon.com/Reaper/JSFX.pdf -> JSFX-v1.0.pdf

(ReaPack would automate the bookkeeping and the check for update on the readers' side.)

Found it:

It's at his website: http://ajaxsoundstudio.com/cookdspdoc/#download - scroll down till you see cookdsp_0.5_2020-01-28.zip. Unzip and install in your Effects directory (the one with other JSFX in it)

Default Whoa

I just discovered the Sonic Anomaly plugins and they are so good it had me searching for other JSFX plugins...which brought me to your guide. This had to be a MASSIVE undertaking, so thank you so much. Such an amazing resource...

Welcome to the Reaper Fprums !!

You also might want to install ReaPack, provide additional Repositories and do a search in the database of some 2000 entries.
(Unfortunately many JSFXes - including "Anomaly" - there, come without a decent description to be found and used. Hence this guide is very useful.)

-Michael

I might not have any idea of what I'm talking about, but would it be possible to install all these from a single repository (or link or whatever) in reapack? Aggregate all of them into a single download, but still keeping all of the separate links of course, because not everybody will want to install the whole shebang.
Also, of I install any of them, can I just copy the folder and paste it in a new computer and the JSs will all be there, or do I need to re-install them. I guess these are all just txt files right?
I'm a noob when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Hi Tukan...
I hope this offer still stands.

I recently sent you a PM the other day, about an update.
Would you take a moment to read it, and let me know what you think?

I'd really appreciate that.

Peace,
Keith

It was a labor of love, really.
And, it was something to do while I had my first cup of coffee in the morning.

Peace,

Default Thank you!

That is a great idea. Thank you for your work. I am discovering JS fx i didn't even know existed!

One thing I think the Reper team could include without much effort is a few presets for each JS pluginso that the user gets an idea of some ball park values and what they sound like. Maybe ask users to send in their favourite settings, maximum three per person per plugin, something like that. That way the community could contribute. They could be an optional ReaPack download.

Have fun!

====================================

Please share your favorite JSFX plugins...or the most useful.
Or the coolest.

My favorite JSFX plugins are: Reflectasaurus (crazy delay) and the Atlantis Reverb (long, shimmery tails)

Why do I "need" to know?

I've created a JSFX guide, which I'll be sharing here.
I wanted to make sure to feature all of the "best/coolest" plugins.

So far, the JSFX "guide" is 115+ page pdf (12 mb) of alphabetized and categorized JSFX plugins.
All have a descriptions and most have an images of the plugin.

I'm really anxious to share this pdf, but I want to make sure it's really ready.
Please take time to reply, so that I can make sure this is as complete as it should be.
(Naturally, I can't list all the JSFX)

There are -NO- JSFX guides out there (except a list on Wikipedia), so I think this will be a fun thing for folks to have!!

Please leave a comment...and thank you for any suggestions and recommendations you can make!

Peace,
Keith
