Default using WALTER

I posted this in another thread,
but I'm going to try a new one with a different title.

As a question of semantics:
When we're editing the rconfig.txt file - and adding lines like this:

Code:
Layout "-TCP MIDI" "fader-blue"
set tcp.volume tcp.volume
set tcp.label.color [10 120 180]
EndLayout

Are we "using WALTER"?

(Remember, I'm new to this)
I thought WALTER was going to be some utility, where you told it what colors to use, and fed in various things - and it "compiled" (well, produced all the right files with the right syntaxes) your theme.

I thought I was just hacking away at some text files - rather than getting involved with this whole "official" process. (ie WALTER)

But the more I read - hacking away with rtconfig.txt, and playing around with the png files etc - *IS* "using WALTER". Isn't it? ;-)

The pieces are slowly starting to come together... ;-)

Answer: Yes, you are using WALTER

WALTER = Window Arrangement Logic Template Engine for REAPER"; for the user it is the language used to define loads of GUI elements and their properties. It is used when the theme is loaded by Reaper.

Thanks Darkstar,

I guess I was dipping my toe in deeper than I first thought ;-)

I'm about at the edge of my knowledge though. I'm still not sure how to work with the files that have the pink bars, and I really can't do any fancy graphical work (like editing knobs and sliders etc, with their shading and shadows...)

The 3. Making a REAPER theme sticky on top of this forum
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=181913

has the link to the Power of Pink guide which will tell about that

As for fancy, or any graphical work really, it just takes time and experimenting to get there. If you feel like it, by all means keep on doing it and ask away when you hit the wall, I'm sure people here will help you further.
