Default visual clue if a track has envelopes

If I hide all envelopes I have no idea that the track has any. And the context menu has no item for showing all envelopes of the track, just for the few default track controls.

To help me to find hidden envelopes quicker I want an icon on a track that signals me if it has any armed envelopes, only unarmed envelopes or no envelopes at all.

I created a button in my toolbar for this reason. It toggles all envelopes hide/show using a single Reaper action "Toggle show all envelopes for all tracks".

It hides/shows ALL envelopes at once but since it's a single click it's fast and easy to toggle hide/show.

CAUTION HERE: When you hide envelopes in Reaper using this action they become DISARMED and go into "Trim/Read" mode even when set to "READ". In Trim/Read mode you can move controls independent of the automation data - which makes it appear automation is not doing anything when in fact it is.

I don't like that functionality SO I also turned on the settings highlighted in yellow below to make sure faders and controls always MOVE when in READ automation mode even when envelopes are hidden. The "Allow writing automation" box is misleading - what it actually does is keep the envelopes ARMed which is required for controls to move in READ mode. Be careful when automation is set to any of the "write" modes with this box checked!

This has been fixed in version 5.92:

+ Automation: do not auto-clear/disable armed invisible envelopes [t=207425]

Yeah!

Add the Action "Envelope: Toggle show all active envelopes for tracks" to the Track Control Panel context menu.

And / or the "all tracks" action if you want it.

Nice idea.

Stubborn as I am I still want that visual clue. I tend to forget things, so I want a nice little reminder of what I've done without having to click ony anything. After all for items I can configure buttons for all the stuff that is hidden (FX, notes, etc).

Maybe just a different colour or icon for the envelope button in the TCP.

I generally move the envelopes to the media item lane instead of hiding them when I don't want the automation lanes. I suppose this can get too messy with a ton of automation. ymmv.

Yeah!
Here it's not completely fixed in 5.92 it seems.
When I toggle hide/show envelopes which are armed and in Read mode, they stay in Read mode now but still get unarmed.

edit:
They stay armed here (only) if 'Allow writing automation' is enabled in Prefs.
edit2:
Ah already mentioned in post #2, missed that.

It'd be cool if the envelopes button on the TCP would light up when envelopes are present (whether active ot not).

If I have any envelopes that are active, I set them to READ. That way there is an indication on the track panel (usually Green). Cubase user, so that is the way I'm used to working.
