Working/ Broken DX and VST efx
Working Hard:
Arcdev blitter
Bionic delay 1,2
Buzroom grancomp
Dblue Glitch
Kjaherus classic delay
posihfopit eq
Sknote & SInk Mirror philter
Tone2 Filterbank2
Hardly working:
Mutagene 2warp delay.
It works fine if the effect is applied to a track,
but when i put it on an "aux/bus" track, and draw an automation curve from the track where the audio is, it first plays with clicks, and at the second time uit crashed : host frozen and an audio buffer (very short) repeating indefinitely...
arcdev et-200 delay plugin : sound works fine, but in some kind of "blind" lode (speed settings aren't shown)
Unemployable:
AIPL Warmtone
bram supatrigga
Convo Boy ( http://www.elevayta.com/) freezes Reaper (0.949) when trying to load an IR
mdsp LiveCut
psp mastercomp appears to pass no audio
Spinaudio SpineQ CM edition : only the left channel works (if it works, try to close/re-open the app : it should have set back in a "left only" mode")...
EDIT: Sorry sinkmusic, Im going to try and put the lists at the top of the thread here so Im err, borrowing your space here
sinkmusic's original post below, he gets the props
As one thread about working/broken vsti already exists, and as some plugins seem to have weird behaviour in Reaper, i have decided to create a new thread...
useful ?
Let's start :
_ Spinaudio SpineQ CM edition : only the left channel works (if it works, try to close/re-open the app : it should have set back in a "left only" mode")...

Me again :
My first big crash with REaper :
using Mutagene 2warp delay.
It works fine if the effect is applied to a track,
but when i put it on an "aux/bus" track, and draw an automation curve from the track where the audio is, it first plays with clicks, and at the second time uit crashed : host frozen and an audio buffer (very short) repeating indefinitely...
(I'm no specialist, but it looks like a PDC issue, or buffer stuff...)
Grrrr !

me, me me and me again..
I think today i deserve a prize !
the wonderful arcdev et-200 delay plugin : when turning the "repeat rate" knob, nothing happens on the gui (it should display, as the name says it all : the repeat rate. warf).
annnoying, as this plugin is awesome.

It's a DirectX plug not VST but I don't know that we really want to start another thread just for DirectX so I guess I will just mention it here that AIPL Warmtone freezes Reaper upon attempting to open it.
I've tried it in .945 .0948 and .951 same deal in all versions.

Digilogue Blueline effects do some seriously crazy shit in Reaper.
I was checking these out (DirectX versions) and got everything from some horrible feedback kind of noise to crashing. Running these on just one track seemed to be ok but putting them on more than one was trouble.
I unchecked worker threads which got them to function properly live (even on multiple tracks) but hitting record resulted in 76 files being recorded when I had only two tracks armed for record!!!
I remember these plugs not seeming very stable in Cool Edit a number of years ago. It's too bad as the compressor and eq sound quite good when they actually work. I wanted to try the VST versions of these to see if they worked better but I couldn't even get them to load properly on my computer.

CamelSpace not working for me, or at least it not as it should. The main issue is that all controls relating to tempo sync and beat division (e.g., trancegate "length" control, LFO "rate" control when sync is selected) do not produce the expected results--everything sounds crackly and fritzy.
Getting lots of pops with it too, even when all sync functions are turned off.

Did you try turning off worker threads?
You can find it in Options -> Preferences -> Audio.
This seems to be the thing to try with plugs that are misbehaving. You seem to loose some processing power doing it but it does sometimes fix the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work for me unfortunately. CamelSpace works perfectly in Sonar4 on the same machine, but just doesn't sync up or sound at all right in REAPER.
I haven't tried the newest release, though.

Kind of a different problem here but when I had some effects missing from my computer and I opened an old project that had these effects in it that were no longer available it crashed out Reaper.
Reaper seemed to deal fine with missing VST effects but DB Audioware effects which are DirectX are a problem when opening a project that had DB Audioware plugs in it when you currently don't have the plugs available to Reaper any more.

I did a reinstall of the operating system and didn't have everything quite back in place yet.
The red and black evil theme is pretty much a joke, even I couldn't stand looking at that thing while I work. I have to agree with you that just the threat of using that one might scare away a few of your vst or directx plugs.
Glad to hear my themes are at least amusing if not actually usable by anyone but myself.
I did run into one interesting thing playing around with the crazy solid colors which is that the right side and middle of Reaper can't be changed with a theme because the white you are looking at there is Windows peaking through. I don't know that it's the proper term but those areas seem to be undefined by Reaper.
I'm hopeful that Justin will eventually get that area under control and maybe allow for changing some other stuff so things can still be visable when you use black and other dark colors.

Well, I tried using the Sony Dither (DX) last night and when I hit play the CPU usage went to 100% and the program pretty much froze.
Using v.952 with Windows XPpro on my old Dell Dimension 4100, PIII 930MHz with 512meg RAM, an Intel 815E chipset.
Echo Layla24 PCI soundcard.

Ah, OK. In that case it's probably a DX process that only works within the Sony products, as opposed to a DX plug-in.
I have a few of those on my system from various manufacturers, and they only work within the original program.
Cheers,
Malcolm.

CM ds404
( CM = Computer|Music mag)I cant get this instrument to work. It's registered on Reaper's list of filters, it's gui shos up but I can't get it to work.
It's a useful instrument, it.s free and it features in the new CM guitar special - which BTW is a very useful purchase.
Reaper is a great tool. Once stup it's becoming a joy to use.
Problems with Triangle, and Paax ( Ithink ) Sfz works just fine.
BTW, my first comment!

Paax also does not seem to work here - Triangle is fine.
Meanwhile, Welcome! - but we're in the wrong thread - this one is for FX and we're talking instruments. But hopefully we will both be forgiven one day.

MIDI LEARN ????
Dfx buffer override works fine.
KarmaFx reverb too
Tls Pocket limiter also feel well in Reaper...
Smartelectronix Ambience reverb makes sounds
BUT...
I can not make any Midi learn with Reaper... Even with plugins (like Ambience) with a "midi learn" feature on the Gui ? !
Would anybody know how to do ?
I took Ambience as an example, opened it in Live : the midi learn worked fine, same in Tracktion, but did not work in Reaper...
I tried in reaper with 3 plugins, it never worked...

- Tls POcket limiter can work in a strange way : one channel gcan get way mre quieter than the other one in certain conditions... I don't know if it is plugin or host related...
- Deelay works fine ;
- cfx delayer too ;
- SH1 reverb & chorus feel fine.

Anybody using Voxengo Pristine Space with Reaper?
I'm getting tempted to purchase this but the demo isn't working completely right with .953.
Live monitoring and playback of recorded tracks are both fine but hit record and it freaks out.
Also trouble with unselecting it during play which produces some bad noise. If you stop play, uncheck the FX box, and then hit play again all is good so this is easier to work around than the problems during recording.

So, I too have jumped on this Reaper-train! Great friggin program. I´m trying to set up a pure free-/share-/donationwaresystem with Reaper as my main host - it is godsent! I´m actually liking it more than Cubase..
Well, I have had problems with:
TL´s Pocket Limiter (crashes Reaper after two instances)
Digital Fish Phones THD (Strange wining when pushing it, and complete meltdown of Reaper after just one instance)
Everything else works like a charm - some glitches and hickups though when loading som free plugins, but no further crashes.
I´m using the latest update by the way.
Love this program/ Jonas

Try disabling "Run FX from worker threads" in prefs/audio, and see if that helps any of these.. let me know if they do.

Nope. Thanks for the tip, though. Some of the noise generated by the THD-plugin stopped, but Reaper is up in smoke when inserting more than two instances. The Pocket Limiter on the other hand was able to run smoothly with a few instances now, but when tweaking too much with them - the plugins and Reaper went haywire, and broke down. All the other plugins runs as smoothly as my newly shaved chin. Though, when loading a few of some certain plugins the program "chokes" for a few seconds and makes this "brrr"-noise, but it doesn´t seem to make the program unstable at all.
This program is so ergonomic! I have reduced my mixing time by 20-25%!

I've dropped the Pocket Limiter (after problems in Reaper) for the Classic series freeware limiter, which seems perfectly good.

Well, I was into Buzmaxi3 : free, with more controls thatn POcket limiter.
Good as every buzroom comps.
(but as i'm a big fan on tbt plugins, i wanted to check this one too). Less features and Reaper's unfriend... So I'll switch !

Anybody using Sir convolution with Reaper?
I haven't tried it in .955 or .956 but in earlier versions of Reaper it was doing bad things when unchecking the effect in/out box. Very nasty noise upon checking/unchecking would calm down to occasional crackles that continued even after the Sir was removed.
Unchecking worker threads seemed to help the severity of the problems a little but didn't fix them completely.
I was even toying with the idea of getting Voxengo Pristine Space convolution but as I said in an earlier post the demo for that was a disaster.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Convolution is very cool and difficult to go without. I haven't tried Convo Boy because sinkmusic and ermi said here that it crashed .949.

Well, I'd gowith Voxengo Boogex.
It is free, mainly aimed at being a guitar amp using convolution, but you can load your awn IR, there is very few latency, and amazing settings (a nive eq, and some more).
It is never classified among "convolution plugins", but it rocks !

I gave Boogex a shot, I guess you can't complain for free but latency is just a bit too much for live use. Maybe if I get asio4all working again it would be ok but I'm using the asio driver from my Edirol and the lowest setting on it is low but not super low like asio4all. This coupled with a little more slowdown from Boogex pushes it to being too much. Some controls that are very useful (crucial even) for working with reverb which are found in most other convolution plugs are lacking in Boogex.
I'm finding that a number of effects are making nasty noises when bypassing them with the check box on the effects screen.
Sir, Boogex, Ambience, and maybe a couple of others.
This seems like a problem with Reaper, I've used these effects in Audition and never had issue with them.
