setting the default track height TCP - end of story...
...how do you do this? I'm getting tiny tracks every time. I just want to be able to see the damned inputs. haha

check the .rpp you are using for a template, if you are, and look for this param:
VZOOMEX 2
change it to a bigger number.
why?

I responded to your post on Facebook. There are simpler ways to do this that don't involve a text editor....
My solution involved saving a project default. But I guess instead, save a new rpp file if you don;t want to edit the rpp file manually.

I've often wondered - changing the preference did nothing. Now I realise that the setting is embedded in the project templates that I was loading.
PS there's a buglet (here?) - the last track is not at the desired height. Here is the appearance of a 4-track project template:

Fixed; in the Project Template I changed the track height on the problem track to "TRACKHEIGHT 0 0".

I'd need to start over - so editing the .rpp worked better for me

Whatever works for ya,of course......
But you wouldn't need to start over.....Just change the height of a track to what you want, save as the template set to load as default. But as always, Reaper offers multiple solutions to most things!

maybe making a new project template would be a good idea.
why is it that my track height settings don't ever change to "custom" ???? is it something in my probably very old template?

Have you tried export / import different configuration, I use that to have multiple loadable settings that switched everything at one time. It works well for what I wanted.

I can't save the track height either. It always comes back to medium anything I do. And when I had a new track it's always minimized. I solved the problem last time but now can't remember how I did it. I want to set the default new track size to custom or use current but it won't save the setting.

Check the track/sends default preferences-it does work after changes//restarting.
Saving tracks with different heights as templates holds the positions user sets. =)

It works with the templates but I'm used to clicking in empty TCP area for new track. And it always gives me a minimized track. Whenever I try to save use current or custom or any other in the track/default, it does'nt save. I click apply close preferences and reopen it and it is still set to medium. Wich it does'nt give me anyway it gives me minimum track height always. It should work easily but it's not. I've been using it for years and suddenly after update it's broken for me.

I have mine set up a bit differently than what I see said here...
I use the
Xenakios_Commands.ini
[SWS installed of course]
in that are these two lines:
Quote:
TRACKHEIGHTA=65
TRACKHEIGHTB=20
|
so the 65 and 20 could be whatever works for you..
Then, with that I get in Actions List some nice actions for those settings:
There is one that is a toggle between A and B for selected tracks, but I use the more simple actions, 'set selected to A' and 'set selected to B'
And I have them on the Main Toolbar, with an icon ... I use an up trianle for the bigger and down triangle for the smaller...
I love how this has been working for me
PS: I do also have the toggle set to hot keys contol+windows+alt+H so that can be fast also

I use the Xenakios commands as well but this way, I always have the need to input an extra action after inserting the track. Sure I have it set to an action/icon but is there any way to set an action for double click in the vacant track control panel area ?
I could'nt find it in either the manual, actions or preferences.

That would be done in Preferences/Mouse modifiers. Unfortunately there is no context for the empty track control panel area, closest you'll get is the track control panel itself.

Me too.
My solution: I saved a project with a track set up like I want it (height, layout...) as "Default.rpp" (but could be any name)somewhere on the PC (can be any folder). In the preferences under Project=>"When creating new projects, use the following project file as a template:" I pointed to this "Default.rpp". After that everytime I Double-Click the empty track control panel area, I get a new track with exactly the settings I've chosen in the "Default.rpp".
Even if I open REAPER with the option "New project (ignore default template)" and have a totally empty project, dbl-clicking the empty tcp-area inserts this track.
I hope that helps and I haven't mistaken this thread...

I Remembered why ! The template was part of the answer. The other problem is if I drag the corner of the track to enlarge Reaper will not remember this move when I double click to insert a new track. If I enlarge the track using CTRL+Mousewheel now it will work as expected an insert the next track at the right height. Seems like a bug or at least a bad continuity in behavior.
