Can we get FLAC in MKV export working?
I don't know if it is possible to use custom FFMPEG commands in the export of video somehow... or a hidden setting somewhere?
I would love to export (mono and stereo) FLAC audio in MKV for uploading to YouTube. As it stands they are going to re-encode your lossy audio again resulting in the nightmare of 2 x lossy encodes. I know PCM is an option, but that will waste a lot of time and bandwidth... FLAC would be perfect Even Windows Media Player is about to support it! https://www.groovypost.com/news/wind...-flac-support/ It works everywhere I tried it, and has been quite a standard for a while.

Not sure if this finds its way into the to do lists of the developers as this is a very special request. I actually never heard about mkv videos with flac audio.
But in the meantime you just could use other tools to join video and audio externally. MkvToolnix is a free portable app to do such things. I just took a look into it and it also allows flac as audio source. That means you could easily export video and audio separately to join it right after within seconds in MkvToolnix. I use this tool very often, its easy and fast. https://mkvtoolnix.download/downloads.html If you have further question. Just ask!

Cheers mate!
I have mkvtoolnix installed and use it all the time, it is awesome. I am also learning more FFMPEG. I could always export PCM and write a script to convert to FLAC, but it would be nice to have it built in. People won't be bothered and the world will be plagued by double lossy encoded audio... arrghh! I imagine a LOT of people export video to go to YouTube, and the best Reaper format for that is the MKV default with H.264 video with lossless audio. Encoding the lossy audio twice is pointless and reduces quality, everyone should be uploading their audio to YouTube losslessly with FLAC for the best quality. I just tested with this on my Reaper exported video: ffmpeg -i udemy-test-wav.mkv -c:v copy -c:a flac udemy-test-flac.mkv Works great! YouTube just converts to: avc1.640028 (137) / mp4a.40.2 (140) Pretty cool they are using avc1 already.
